Assistant head coach admits team selection will be tricky.

Dean Holden admits there are some tough decisions ahead when it comes to team selection, after City’s prosperous transfer window.

Six players were added to the first team squad during January: Jens Hegeler, Milan Djuric, Bailey Wright, Fabian Giefer, Matty Taylor and David Cotterill.

Going the other way, Richard O’Donnell, Luke Freeman, Wes Burns and Joel Ekstrand all left BS3 permanently.

It leaves Lee Johnson with 26 players to choose from for 18 matchday squad places.

“The squad has good depth and we’ll have a number of players who won’t even make the matchday 18 now – that’s something we’ll have to manage,” admitted assistant first team coach Holden on Bristol City Player HD.

“We’ve made some key additions in January, adding to the quality we already have in our dressing room.

“When new faces come in there’s always a bounce. The likes of Matty and David will want to impress their new team-mates and vice versa.

“Both of them are fit and available to play straight away – if selected. We have some big decisions to make now.”

City host the Sky Bet Championship’s bottom club Rotherham United tomorrow at Ashton Gate (3pm) looking for their first league win in ten attempts.

Holden admits there is pressure to secure all three points, especially with four straight away games to follow.

“To be honest we put pressure on ourselves to get results and perform,” Holden added.

“We know we have four away games after this so it’ll be a long time before the next game at Ashton Gate, and we want to send the fans away happy this weekend.

“We got back to our way of playing on Tuesday against Sheffield Wednesday. It was a step in the right direction and a positive result – but we must build on that now.”

Adam Matthews and Korey Smith are back in training as City have the luxury of a fully-fit squad.

City bad run started November 5th Mr Holden arrived  on the 10th. Have things improved no. In answer to Clunes. If we lose today any club in the professional league would sack him.
