Even if you think he was our weakest link today I don't see why many are so cynical. It's his third championship start. Did you expect him to come in and be a top RB after half a year at Accrington? All things considered(team opponent, who he had to mark, his experience, etc) he had a really strong game. Probably didn't give the ball away, had a few good tackles(not just the one in the first half I can remember at least one more where he got beat but stayed with it and with me real nervous dived in and won the ball in the box) and gave everything he had. He needs to play a run of games before we get too cynical on him. Villa won't be easy either as he'll be going up against Kodjia or Grealish. It's a testing time but I'd like to think by Burton it'll look more his level.

Today he was solid. Only his third championship start and against Atsu who is probably a bit too good for the division. He made some mistakes and you can tell the speed of the game caught him out a few times but that only gets better by playing. With Matthews seemingly thinking about next season wherever that may be and Little injured, I'd just keep throwing young Zak out there.

I think he's a championship right back in the making. He's quite smooth in his movement and what he does. Looks comfortable on the ball, even if he wasn't asked to do much of that. Had the confidence to take on 3 defenders with step overs late in the game from wing back as well. He's no worse than what we have and I think has potential for the league. The only thing that would worry me is he's kind of inbetween RB and CB at the moment. Meaning he might not be quick enough for RB just yet(don't have to be super quick but needs to figure out what he can and can't do there and how much space to give etc) and not quite physically developed enough for CB yet(may never be).

Agree like we did with Bryan and Reid and like Fulham have done with Sessegnon and Everton with Tom Davies.

I certainly wouldn't drop him for the next games, had energy and drive and played very well on the whole. certainly better than Little and Matthews combined.

Good to hear. Having Cotts in front of him will help him. I'm not as convinced about Flint talking him through the game though.

I'd prefer to see a promising/improving homegrown youngster over Matthews (who I think has burnt his bridges here) or Little who will be out of contract and doubtless heading back to League One at the end of the season.

We obviously still need a specialist (hopefully Championship) quality RB at the end of the season.

I expect to see him marking Kodj. LJ will tell him to drop forwards a few steps before the ball is played in as Kodj has issues with being offside.

Tend to agree, but with Vyner and Taylor Moore coming back we may have some decent options with both of them having gained league experience this season.

I'm not sure (as in I don't know) but aren't they both expected to be centre backs longer term? I know with younger players it takes a while to work out their best position, and if we are moulding either into a right back then fair enough. Maybe Zak will follow in Carey's footsteps and move to cb later on. anyway if Dave Cotts is here next season to protect the rb then I'd *almost* think we could get away with this.

Thought he did well today whilst still inexperienced in this league.

Much happier with him in there, learning and making the odd mistake than car crash Mark Little who has shown no sign of improving his game nor learning from his mistakes.
