The Extent of Our Decline

After 11 games, we had 20 points from 11 games- and were in the top 6. That's a quarter of the season near enough- usually a pretty good barometer. Indeed, certain sides looked so far behind us that it looked really unlikely we would be in any relegation strife at all.

  • Villa and Derby- both 10 points adrift
  • Wigan- 11
  • Blackburn- and Cardiff who we were due to face post International break- 12.

Even if you backed Villa and Derby to pull away, we were still well well clear of that area. Remember a quarter of the season is not insubstantial!

21   Wigan 11 -2 9

22   Blackburn 11 -8 8
23   Cardiff 11 -11 8
24   Rotherham 11 -14 6

Since those optimistic times, we have gained less points than all but Rotherham!

Cardiff have left us in their wing mirror and Blackburn have just overtaken us- with a game in hand to boot! Only 3 points better off than Rotherham in last 23 games, Wigan have got 8 more points, Blackburn 14, Cardiff 24. Hell even Burton have outperformed us by 10! Sad feeling was if we beat Cardiff, 15 points ahead of 12 games- yep that was us above them, not coming back from that- post October 1st we are down there with Rotherham!

17 games lost int he last 24 says it all, half a season of losing will get any side relegated. Depressing considering our squad and the buzz around the club with the redevelopment etc, only city could take the positive momentum around promotion then consolidating, and completely **** it up!
