Dollymarie
Soooo, me and foster son were cutting the hedges out the front of my house with the electric strimmer, and just as we had finished, this happened. Is it doomed or easily fixed?
Guest
It's only the cable that's been chopped? Could completely replace the wire but that's a bit fiddly taking the thing apart. An easier fix will be to just put a new terminal block such as this ( http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-13AMP-Line-Connector-3-Terminal/p/712978?CAWELAID=120135120000004186&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=42100067008&CATCI=pla-18283950120&gclid=CJ6s9OvihdMCFWMz0wodyssAhw&gclsrc=aw.ds&abCase=m.menu.new,m.p.cat.new )in between. It'll mean it's a bit more bulky (although can get thinner types than that.
Guest
Given the relatively short length chopped it might be better to just remove that bit and wire in the rest. Depends how it's terminated inside
Dollymarie
Yep only the cable chopped. SOMEONE (translates as not me) was chopping up the last bits and wasn't paying attention to where the cable was, so the blades of the hedge strimmer cut through it. I wouldn't have a clue about wiring anything though. It's mums hedge cutter, so I'd rather it wasn't dead.
Frenchay Red
This http://www.screwfix.com/p/masterplug-orange-connector-2-pin/46232?kpid=46232&cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&gclid=CI2aj472hdMCFeUp0wodRnEGhQ&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CJq1s472hdMCFUgS0wod4YkMiw is exactly what you need for accidentally cut cable. For heavens sake make sure the prongs out piece is connected to the trimmer and the socket piece to the long length of cable which is plugged in. Think that's 'male/female' .... best check that with Mr HUCKER though (btw haven't seen old Rudie around lately)
WhistleHappy
Think an electrician would 're-fuse' to do it.
Barrs Court Red
If you swing it about really quickly, it should generate enough kinetic energy to work. Go try it
