Dynamite Red
Played well, I do find it a little odd that he can play left back, keep a clean sheet against a quality international team plus score the winner yet can't get a game for us in one of our weakest positions. samo II
If we didn't already own Mags, I suggest we'd be delighted to sign him - a 24 year old goal scoring international defender; I'd be impressed if we landed a similar calibre player this summer. What I cannot understand is LJ's insistence that 23 year old (24 in September) Joe Bryan can be a top-level left back, despite the majority of his time in that position being with Plymouth in League Two, and his more accomplished performances at this level being in midfield. However, Mags (only 8 months older) is too stuck in his ways at centre back to be able to play left back, meaning he's out of the squad more often than not, yet he can regularly line up there and impress at international level - he helped keep the like of Perisic, Mandzukic, Modric and Kalinic quiet last night, and now has twice popped up with crucial winners. Regular international who's side might yet make the World Cup next summer, and who has scored as many free kicks as Tomlin this season, and yet might be out in his arse before the next campaign- I don't understand it. WhistleHappy
Makes me wonder if perhaps L J is confusing our Hordurs with the reality TV show about 'Hoarders' and 'loads of rubbish' ... Magnusson, has just proved that when he 'Starts he can Finish' (come on LJ it doesn't take a Mastermind to see that!) Time to 'think outside of the box' Lee. For example if Hordur jumps ship pastures ( and I wouldn't blame him) and he makes a roaring success of it with a rival, then there will be an outrage amongst fans and rightly so. I don't think LJ will have any slack at all this season, last season is far to raw still. He has to get it it right from the word go with everything, new players, existing players, tactics etc. If LJ has any coaching/management ability Magnussons form should not have gone unnoticed
Carey 6
I didn't actually see the game yesterday, but if he looks like he could play left back comfortably, up against a player Man U are looking to sign we should definitely give him ago. Not sure I'd have him at centre back. Too weak for me, and his distribution isn't as good as some people would make it out to be. Still, it was his first season in the championship so hopefully pushes on next season.

We could give him all the time in the world as long as things are working and there is progress and dare I say it stability, along with seemingly ability to use and motivate the players properly. As I said his every move will be scrutinised by the fans at a level not seen before. If he steps out of line and they will be calling for his head on a platter with a cherry on top. Like the Tweet quoted says about Hordur/ Goldbourne in Lee's case he is either successful or not. There is no leeway ( no pun intended) in his case this coming season. I personally want him to be successful, but if he really hasn't learnt from this season or isn't up to the job then I'm realistic enough and will call for his head as loud as anyone. I want my club to be successful after all.

The Bard
All this shows me that there are a lot of negatives to having lots of choice. Rather than accepting his faults and working on them, LJ seems to be saying he's not good enough or versatile and will look to the transfer market for a quick fix. On the other hand, Iceland have a very small pool of players so he is being picked, clearly gaining confidence in a side that must have remarkable self belief with a strong team ethic. I wonder which coach he respects the most?
ColeCiderRed
My understanding with Mags was that if he played a certain number of games in his first season for us, we would have to pay Juventus more money. If other clubs aren't interested (for the right fee) Over the summer, I'm sure he will be a main stay next season.

When he dropped out of the squad that seemed a particularly odd decision (injury time aside). Through the middle of the season (when we were shipping goals) it would have been dangerous to have him on the bench as that would have put even more pressure on a beleaguered Lee Johnson - selecting him but not playing him. But, I didn't think we were in a perilous financial situation where appearance related payments would hurt us - unless it was an absurd clause/charge. Would really like to see him back in the starting 11. He didn't do much wrong in the games I saw him play.

RedM
It must have been a hell of a fee if we sidelined a player to save money, meanwhile we played without him whilst paying him and probably unsettled him too. Oh and of course we bought another player in* Real saving that must have been, and could be disastrous in the long run too. *I'm not suggesting it wasn't right to bring Bailey Wright in btw. But yes, I agree that sometimes our club seems to have no logic

That was the rumour but, as RedM says, it must have been a seriously large fee in the clause for us to drop him? Do we know if said clause still applies next season? The other thing, if this clause, as rumoured, is true, is that Magners wasn't purchased with the expectation of playing so many games as he did? I find the idea that clubs like us, would sign players from Juve and not play them a tad daft TBH. It sounds like a poorly drafted contract if that clause is correct and of no benefit to the club or the player.

brady bunch
I am not a stato, but I think our form was abysmal when he had a run in the side and picked up when he was dropped? Maybe someone can check that who likes looking at the stat’s? It may just be that he is a good player (I think he is), but was not right for the side we had at the time. I certainly dont see Baily Wright as an improvement, but overall our form did pick up with him in the side.
