Millwall Football Club wishes to make its supporters aware of a potential change to kick-off time when The Lions travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on Saturday 19th August.

The game is currently scheduled to begin at 3pm but the club has been advised that it may be moved to an earlier time the same day.

The club is in continued discussions to try and avoid a change at this late stage and will provide supporters with a further update in due course in order to help avoid additional disruption to travel plans.

Pathetic, no need for it.

Bet plenty of Millwall fans have already booked trains already.

Would be interesting to hear the reasoning behind this late change, considering the fixtures were released over a month ago

Be great if the club refused. Cardiff home games have been ruined atmosphere wise the past two seasons cause of this.

Good theory ,

until they lose their Safety Licence for the game (Assuming it's on Police advice / recommendation / ? intelligence ?)

Doubt anything that drastic would happen. Just a higher cost of policing at the game. But guarantee you'd get more away fans going for a 3pm than a 12pm. Also sell more in the ground beforehand. 12pm is too early.

Don't think it works quite like that

Its a potential solution , dependent on what the Police viewpoint is , but I'm not sure we could just stick two fingers up or bully the Police into accepting a 3pm ko

( I don't disagree with your sentiments -(Just pointing out the practicalities)

Just imagine if the Club went against all advice , even if they could, and a serious incident or disorder occurred - they'd be ripped to shreds

( I've never quite believed that those determined on a ruck will say ' Oh I'll have to get up earlier , I can't be bothered')

I don't think the club should go against all advice, I just don't think we should roll over and accept their request for a 12pm kick off for a game where there's no real rivalry there.

We'll end up with Birmingham/Wolves/any game with the slightest bit of chance of trouble being changed soon enough.

The fixtures have been out for several weeks now. Milwall will always be a high profile game, if the police wanted an early kick off this should have been sorted several weeks ago.

Like others have said, there will be plenty of milwall fans who have arranged travel arrangements for the game likewise our own fans who don't live in Bristol

Nothing worse than a 12pm kick off. Awful atmosphere in ground and the players rarely seem to start these games well.

No need to change kick off time.

I've never really understood the logic in an early kick-off preventing any trouble. Surely there is now more time after the game to police people outside of the ground?

Yup and people upset about the result. Who's to say the Police have requested it, I spoke to one recently about football and they rightly said if there are people out to cause trouble they will anyway, an hour or 3 isn't going to make much difference. Like you say they will just linger around afterwards. Perhaps the feeling is that people won't be drinking before the game if an early KO, but if people want to drink they will, no matter what time of day it is.

Wasnt the Cardiff game (similar situation with the fans) early as the council wanted to close the road for work on the metro bridge, I suspect the same bridge might need work right on this match day, how convenient?

I'd have thought it was a fairly obvious candidate for an early kick off.

Not 3 weeks before though.

Blimey - I thought they were only considering bringing it back to midday

That's ridiculous - Is that tomorrow then ?

;)

When the park end was open & the away end (late 1980's?) I'm sure I remember Dolman A block sending wooden seat Frisbees into the Millwall fans. It was pandemonium before & after. Have I imagined this?

No - was a mad mad day

I remember lee Mathews scoring a last min pen to beat millwall. Their fans ripped out half the old e.e, before it was shared. Must have been late 90s earlyn2000s?

Wasn't there building work going on round the ground and they pulled apart the scaffolding , or may have been City. That was a crazy night

A vivid memory. I can remember thinking why are you smashing up your own seats? Toxic day.

Unbelievably, some City were in the Millwall pen.

Total mayhem everywhere, never witnessed anything like that day.

It did happen. I got caught in the crossfire after the game, crouched down the other side of the wall of the park as bottles and bricks flew over my head. There was a house on the road which had scaffolding around it as it was being renovated, the garden wall was dismantled by City fans to use as ammo. I always wondered if the wall coming down was a help or not to the house owner! The next season  the match was a noon KO and all the local shops were boarded up in preparation, looked like we were getting ready for Huricane Millwall.

And yes loads of seats were thrown out of the Dolman that day, you could see for ages after the new wooden seats that were put in were a different colour to the old ones they replaced.

Don't imagine the Kick off time will be changed.

The electronic advertising hording was saying the game was a 3pm Kick off last night, if it was still TBC I'd guess it would have said so.

Who's to say it's not the club wanting the change not the police :fear:

One of the Millwall lads claims Harry Roberts is his hero.

Perhaps, and I'm assuming the poster is a bloke, he'd like to explain to my sister and her best friend when at Primary school why this is the case.

My sister's best friend lost her daddy when she was a toddler. She never saw him coming home from primary school. Never remembers having a holiday with him. Why? Because her dad was shot dead by a criminal. That criminal is now out of prison.

I doubt if Harry Roberts wants to be a hero to someone.

I wish I hadn't clicked onto that link.

City fans used to sing that song back in the day. Thankfully we moved on in about 1978 unlike some.

You've probably got a letter in a drawer somewhere that says you'll be getting food vouchers and a personal account manager to sort out any issues, stat. Look how that turned out.

March 2001.

I think there were 3 or 4 red cards. Was certainly an atmosphere that evening, pouring down too.

Why should it be moved from 3pm anyway? It's not a local derby, yes there is a certain risk of trouble but isn't that the case vs quite a few sides?

So when is our nice police woman gonna give us an update?

She's on leave at the moment ahead of the season starting next weekend.

She's probably coming on here in her spare time. Maybe she's waiting to hear what gets decided about Milwall before she says anything.

Surely the game can't be changed (without VERY good, specific reason) within 3 weeks of kick off?!

This could have been done at any time since mid June, if needed. To leave it this late would be very, very poor.

My 10yr old is one of the Mascots for the Millwall game. I've received the itinerary and tickets etc. but I'm wondering what happens if it's changed to a noon kick off? I agree with @Bar BS3, 3 weeks is too late to make such a change.

Alternative itinery will apply:

Mascots to report to Spanish Bar at 10.30am, baseball caps and full Stone Island kit to be worn. 'wall arriving at 11 - kick off expected soon after

Didn`t we change a home game over Easter a couple of years ago from Saturday to Good Friday with about a week`s notice? The club got such a right slagging over that I doubt they`d do it again!

Dolly is correct I am on leave.

i am trying to find out from work if this is happening and I understand a request was made to both the league and millwall from Bcfc to consider a 1200hrs kick off.

i am told Bcfc are awaiting an update from millwall

i do understand the frustration this has caused so close to the day of the match and I remain hopeful that an agreement can be made soon

Why would bcfc request a early kick off? I thought it was normally the police?

So, can this only happen if both Millwall and the police agree?

I hope one or other, or both, refuse.

Understandable request, 6 weeks ago. To do it now would be a terrible decision!

At present me and two others are due at TM at 1243 so train tickets from London will need to be rebooked of KO is moved to midday. Will not be happy if this is the case especially if as looks as if city may be behind it.

Also what will happen with the Millwall fans who have presumably booked return trains from about 6pm already? I guess some of them will love the thought of 3 hours post match to "enjoy" Bristol.
