Short Film

So a couple of years back, I posted a short film on here that I finished for my dissertation, and got some pretty positive and kind remarks. Two years down the line and I've progressed a little bit in my career, working for Aardman and also doing some freelance stuff and passion projects on the side.

Anyway, my most recent passion project has just made it in Bristol film festival, Encounters - as part of the DepicT! sister category (which specialises in short films of 90secs or less). Over 500 submissions were made and just 20 were selected so I'm pretty chuffed, but I'm using this opportunity to get some feedback and I know there's a pretty creative, and film, orientated community as a part of OTIB so thought I'd test the waters.

Any notes at all would be welcome, and if you have a few extra minutes spare, there are some wicked other short films on the website that have been selected that you could do worse things than watch.

Cheers all in advance, link here... https://www.depict.org/2017/i-know-i-shouldnt-like-it-but-i-do/?category_request=2017

Had to watch it twice to get it. Probably just me!  Really liked it.

Watched all of the other nominees and yours was my fave.  Hard to do anything with meaning in 90 seconds and I felt most others showed that.

Thanks RedDave, tough competition but really appreciate that you preferred mine - even if that is swayed slightly by knowing I'm a red. I think I was fortunate that I had the piece planned and the fact that the voiceover fit into 90 seconds gave me a driving point to aim for DepicT! rather than targeting the festival first and then coming up with the concept.

I've only actually seen two so far, am trying not to watch too many so that I still have some element of unknown at the actual screening.

Sorry, I don't get it.  But then I don't get much that is considered art, apart from landscapes and portraits - oh and sculptures of recognisable things, so no disrespect, I'm probably just a simple soul, who hasn't an artistic bone in his body.

No disrespect or offence taken, appreciate that you took the time to watch it and respond! Everyone loves a good landscape anyway.

Just a little BUMP. Sure it's reached everyone that would like to watch it but in case it hasn't. Apologies for the spam.

Did you take your inspiration for the opening titles of Dexter?

Ill be amazed if you've never seen them.

Again a good piece. I'm not convinced it was quite to the standard of your last - but you're definitely very talented.

Keep us posted with the next piece.

Thanks Fordy. Interesting what you say with regards to my last short, but appreciate it! I've had opinions either side so it's always good to know how people feel my work is developing.

I'm glad you noticed the Dexter similarities. Definitely a reference - I love the show. You're the first of quite a few people to mention it though.
