Fiale Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I heard him advertise this interview during the Norwich game for Sound of the City - should be a good one.
RaspberryRed Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 That's great and should be an interesting listen and give us even more insight into him & his role Pleased for him too as when he 1st came in he looked/sounded really uneasy during interviews. In the more recent ones he has seemed much more at ease and has grown into his role as assistant Head Coach
CheddarReds Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Will be on sometime in this hour. Thought Holden spoke well for Bolton pre match, hope he will tonight!
BobBobSuperBob Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Spoken very well and comes across as a good guy Very interesting
Jack Dawe Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Yes, really enjoyed that. Sounds like Mani, out the Roses (nothing wrong with that). I didn't hear it all - a few interruptions here - but caught him responding to, I think, Geoff asking how tough it is with opponents like Villa and clubs with parachute payments, DH saying something like we might lack the £££s of some clubs, but "why can't we be world class in fitness and team spirit and..." he listed a few other things you can excel in and match the top clubs whoever you are. Exactly, DH, just what many of us have thought for a while. There are ways we can "compete" with these clubs, as other smaller clubs have demonstrated. So why cannot Bristol City do this too? Bravo, Dean Holden (and by extension, LJ). Keep up the good work.
Jacki Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I'm much more impressed with him tonight than I expected I would be. Seems like a good bloke with a huge work ethic and a positive attitude. I've been really negative about him in the past but he came across really well today.
steviestevieneville Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Very good enlightening interview and came across a very passionate football man and very honest

Davefevs Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Listened to first 20mins in car, and just heard the rest. Very open and honest. I’ve met him, he’s a decent bloke. Hardworking.

None of what he wrote could be described as ‘laughable buzzwords’ - ‘huge work ethic’ and ‘positive attitude’ are a bit cliched maybe, but they’re just football cliches. In fact I bet SC said both of those during his time here. It’s a real stretch - even for you - to try and turn that into some sort of LJ criticism.

Gillies Downs Leeds Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Have noticed that whenever a managerial vacancy comes up in leagues 1 or 2 at a Northern club, more often than not he is towards the top of the betting.

Gakoe Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Agree he came across very well. Sounded honest, open and down to earth. Good work ethic too, as Jacki said. Have to remind myself that l love them all when we're playing well though.
INCRED Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 The bloke oozes passion for his job and is obviously well and truly embedded in the club. Spoke very well, almost convinced myself that he was the head coach for a moment. Interesting insight into how the dynamic of the coaching set up works and how much detail they go into every day of the week. It was interesting the comment GT made about Tomlin and his commute which he side stepped quite well. Whilst things are going well the whole club is working like a well oiled machine, long may it continue!
RedRock Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Only caught the last 20 mins but was very impressed. Never previously warmed to the guy for some reason. Always looked a little glum, downbeat and detached. Clearly, in this instance, appearances are deceptive. After that interview, happy to welcome him into the bosom of the Club!

ZiderEyed Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Sooner people realise that Thatch is a parody the better.
cityred exile Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 A little sceptical with him last season but except him as part of the way ahead now , enjoyed the interview

Standard northerner then As for the interview I thought it was very good, clearly this isn't just another job for him and that's the sort of person whose good for a club behind the scenes. By the sounds of it the guys we have, the main 3, Luke Williams, Tinnion, the analysts, scouts etc are all willing to go that extra bit by their own choice rather than just doing it as its their job. I loved the sound of the open door policy where anyone including any of the analysts can walk in and suggest an idea.

Am I right in remembering that JM in his early days running the U23s came in for some stick for his interviews. Seems we now have a management team singing from the same hymn sheet.
BCFC Rich Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 His reaction to the question about JP's corners made me laugh, at least it's something they're working on.

Basket case of a club Who force signings onto their manager.
Shtanley Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Love that he finds the criticisms/personal attacks amusing

Never heard it with SC. Correct. Cotts' "lucky pants" phrase was a technical term that meant nothing to a layman such as meself. If it hadn't been for @spudski explaining the technical meaning of "lucky pants" and another one about seeing, or needing to see, magpies driving to AG on a matchday, I'd still be in the dark.
cidered abroad Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I've just listened to it and what a refreshing hour that was. His passion for the job comes across in bucket loads and a lot of very sensible information and answers to questions. The only question not asked that I would like to hear an answer to is that he is nominally our attack coach yet he played his whole career as a defender. Could it be that a defender will know how defenders react to given situations so the coaching emphasis will be to do the opposite. A bit like the old police adage that it takes a thief to catch a thief. But an enthralling hour and it's great to see/hear how open the club is now with supporters. Young modern fans are so lucky whereas we had a couple of very intensely edited lines on the back page of the Evil Post and a couple of pages in the Green 'Un.
Kid in the Riot Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Interesting interview and he does come across as a thoroughly decent bloke. Not sure if many knew but he and his family suffered a horrific tragedy a few years ago: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/17-month-old-daughter-footballer-dean-holden-689623

No parent should have to bury their child.
Admin Phantom Posted September 26, 2017 Admin Posted September 26, 2017 Didn't realise he was married to Danielle Nicholls For those not old enough to remember, she was the kids TV totty presenter before Holly Willoughby After the kids TV work dried up can remember her doing a few "risky" adult shows, remember her learning to pole dance once
