The Official: England have made 7 changes which actually makes this game more exciting. Lithuania v England match-day thread. Or what a waste of time half these players wouldn't even get in the City team Lithuania v England Match-day Thread

Okay, I'm actually in the 1st Camp. A bit more interested in this one with all the changes.

England line up: Butland; Keane, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Henderson, Winks, Cresswell; Alli, Rashford, Kane

P.s. I promise not to keep making really long thread titles.                                                 (At least until next international break!).

I've liked your post simply based on the balls you have to write such a long thread title.

You are a ligit genius.

Keep up the long titles, they're brilliant, and you'll never get a complaint from a fellow otiber that they thought the thread was about something else.

............. begs the question of how long can a thread title get??

I STRONGLY suggest the mods answer this question before someone test the envelope.

Positives: Butland starts, he should probably be 1st choice in my opinion. Stones playing and actually is gradually looking like the player he was hyped to be this season, hopefully, might be that player by the summer. Keane I actually rate particularly for a back 3. Ali is back and is with Kane the only player who stands out as world class.

Positives: I have some Red Stripe chilling in the fridge, and it's Sunday lunchtime.

That's all I've got.

How, FFS, is cold lager a 'positive'?

I'd allow it if you have crawled the last 100 km out of the desert on humanitarian grounds.

Did you know Butcombe have a brewery 15 minutes from the Gate???

So why are they playing down the Mem?

Was just about to comment.

Tents at one end, supporters wearing ponchos...

Can't be the Mem. Lithuania don't have the high wheelchair area that the Gas do.

Could that be the mini tent behind our goal?

No creativity, no movement, no passion.

Interesting, not saying it is great by any manner of means, but thought we have a little more 'zip' than on Thursday.

Agree.

Thursday was down right shite. Today they are actually running around.

Agreed and as much as I like a moan about England they should get credit where its due. In the team - Butland 5 caps, cresswell 2 caps, Maguire 0 caps, stones 19, Trippier 1 cap. 27 caps amongst the back line. Add in winks with none and its a pretty inexperienced line up playing a different system and doing ok.

Henderson almost creates something! Henderson! Henderson almost creates something! But no, seriously Henderson....I didn't say Ali I said Henderson.... Hendreson was being creative! What a time we're living in.

As an aside, pretty sure if Scotland do not win, then N Ireland will be confirmed as a 'best second place' because of the way it all works out.

Much rather see the home nations qualify. England v scotland in russia at least would create some interest.

I take the opposing view: much as I am presently indifferent towards England, the rest of them can GTF and hopefully never qualify for anything.

What was the point of replacing Hodgson with someone equally dreary in his approach? There may have been worse England sides but surely none more dull than this one?

He doesn't inspire me or make me proud at all. The players looked like they are thinking about their club games and not wanting to get hurt, they aren't motivated or filled with pride either. Bored by the World Cup already. Thank god ive got some Irish blood in me and I can cheer on Callum & Co hopefully stuffing the Welshies tomorrow, on tv anyway.

We didn't. We replaced Hodgson with someone with a pair of balls to do what he wanted, not the board. And then we had to replace HIM with someone dreary as he was caught in a newspaper sting.

It's free on S4C sky channel.

OK , it will be in Welsh but even the commentary team should be able to say 'O'Dowda' and 'Bristol City' in a language we'll understand......hopefully!

I've never seen England play, I've lost interest in seeing them at Wembley for obvious reasons. Is it still ridiculously hard getting away tickets? Assume it's all FA supporters club nonsense for a stupid fee to even have a chance?

I thought Winks had a decent first half and might bring a more attacking option in midfield than Henderson, but second half he became too safe.  As a young player with a decent pass and some drive, he could be what England need.  It will depend if he can get his way into the Spurs team though.

Sack Southgate now. No, seriously. Imagine him as your National team manager, oh wait he actually is. The man hasnt got a clue and the one thing that players represent when they play is their Manager and he represents a corporate, loserish style which is evident in how we play. Absolutely no different to Hodgson.

On the other hand the players, we haven't got any talent other than Harry Kane. We are simply bang average.

Winks got 8/10 from BBC Sport Tonight.  No way was he 8/10, no way was he our best player, suggest the reporter was being a bit / lot fanciful.  He gave Henderson 4/10.  I can only suggest he have pre-conceived bias on that front.  Henderson actually broke last the front line a couple of time tonight.

Right, who are here are proper qualified coaches, beyond the bare minimum to run an under-7s?  Answer me this.  In a 352 against a poor international side, isn’t the point of playing 3 at the back, so that one can step into midfield and make an extra player, plus allow the full-backs to get up the pitch?  I thought so, so when Keane advances, the the ‘eff’ has Winks gone back into central defence to make it a 3 again?  I don’t get it.  It winds me up.

So having said last week that Bertrand has become another England LB who plays too cautiously for his nation and Giles against everything his club mentality has done to get him his cap, we find another one, Cresswell.  Never takes a chance with the ball at his feet.  Did a couple of overlaps,  but that is the bare minimum in a possession dominant game.  Trippier on the other side I like.  He likes that little first time pass (opening up his foot) into the channel, which with good movement gets us into advanced positions quickly.

Alli, play someone in, stop trying to shoot when a shot isn’t on.  He needs to play from deep, so that he is the runner coming into the ball.  Can be a waste playing him too high.  Not all his fault though.  He should’ve played alongside Henderson, not Winks.

Maguire - why doesn’t he advance and crash a 30-35 yard shot like he does for Leicester, or did for Hull and Sheff Utd.

In summary, why do we pick players based on how they play for their clubs, and I can only imagine, they then get told to play a different way for England.  Another very frustrating viewing.
