WolfOfWestStreet Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Guys a ******* nause. Admitting manipulating fixtures so teams have longer journeys midweek rather than weekends. So the fixture lists are not randomly generated, anyone else not comfortable with this?
Never to the dark side Posted October 11, 2017 Author Posted October 11, 2017 Thankfully we only have one long distance midweek fixture this season,Preston North End on march 6th

What's the benefit though apart from a few 1000 less on the roads at weekends? Ni, I'm not particularly comfortable with it but don't really know why he did it, in all honesty.
View from the Dolman Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Still don't understand why this is being seen as "news". An article from 2008 contained a quote from 2005... David Cookson, fixtures secretary at the Football League pointed out in 2005: "Supporters need to recognise that some clubs prefer to make long journeys in midweek - it cuts down on their overheads because they don't need to pay for overnight accommodation. The club will travel on the day of the game and head straight home after the match. These requests mean we now have very limited options when we try to minimise travel with supporters in mind. Fans do need to know that we do try and help them as much as we can, but at the end of the day the Football League has to get the fixtures played." https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2008/nov/28/football-league-long-journeys-midweek-fixtures

That in a nutshell is the problem with the game
Never to the dark side Posted October 11, 2017 Author Posted October 11, 2017 Strange how Super sunday is always Manchester United/City Liverpool Spurs chelsea Arsenal This sundays premiership fixtures won't set the football world alight Brighton & Hove Albion v Everton Southampton v Newcastle United

Midred Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I thought the fixtures were arranged to suit Sky so that they can have their "Super Sundays"! How else can several derbys happen on the same day?
