The Netherlands international had been expected to join the Reds last summer after he handed in a transfer request. But a move fell through when Liverpool apologised for making an alleged illegal approach for the 26-year-old. The fee would be the most ever paid for a defender - Manchester City set a record when they paid £52m for Monaco's Benjamin Mendy in July. How can you justify paying £75mil for a bloody centre back?! Makes you wonder if a deal has been agreed with Barcelona. Didn't Tottenham start splashing cash before Bale left? Same as Everton who were spending big in the summer before Lukaku left. Two clubs wanted him and we now live in a world where players go for these sums quite often. Mustafi went to Arsenal for £35m and is awful. Kyle Walker went for £55m.
