ITV4 tonight 9pm. Bob Paisleys Liverpool and Brian Cloughs Nottingham forest.  Two great teams who wear red.

Begs the question who have been the most successful  clubs those who wear Red or those who wear blue?

Cloughie was on another level than Paisley.

If we`re talking English clubs I would suggest it`s red. Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Forest against Man City, Chelsea, Everton.

It will always be red purely on how many teams where red upto blue in this country

It is but it`s odd when you look at international sides - blue wins hands down with Italy, France, Argentina, Uruguay (back in the day) - even Greece won the Euros.

I can`t think of a top side that wears red - Belgium, Spain (recently) or Portugal maybe?

Best manager ever on my opinion.  What he achieved with Derby and then Forest was pure genius.

In the context of modern football v old Claudio Rainieri at Leicester could be considered a greater top flight title win than Forest could it not? Notwithstanding what Clough previously did with Derby and went on to do with Forest of course.

Perhaps if a Burnley or a Bristol City win the Premier League title in the next 10 years or so perhaps we can water down that assessment.

Following his successor at Derby Cough took over at forest when they were mid table in the old 2nd Div. a year or so later they won promotion. The following season they won the league. The year after that they won the European cup and again the following year. What a CV!

Clough could assemble a team of unknowns and turn them into champions and internationals. Shame he never managed England. He claimed that if the FA would have given him the job he would have would the World Cup?

I eulogised about him on a Forest thread or two. Back in them there days though the teams were closer, much closer, financially and so it was more likely regardless of the extraordinary feat he achieved.

You just gotta love the bloke .

He was probably right though .

Takes balls to take your first training session, at arguably the best club side in Europe at the time, and tell them to throw away their medals because they had been won by cheating.

Heaven knows what he would say if he took over the Aussie cricket team! :)

Was ever the diplomat.

It was a psychological gamble that misfired.

I expect the result Clough wanted was that they would take his comments and stuff them down his throat with higher performances levels, how could they be motivated to win even more ?

However , most saw it as a sleight on the bloke who'd bought them so much success and whom they respected , Revie .

They hated the new boss and he didn't get the time to see out his project.

Ha ha !

This is what you could have won .

Only Leeds fans see Revie as a legend. He was a crook and failed everywhere else after leaving Leeds.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the famous Clough and Revie Yorkshire News Interview..type it in on YouTube. Pure gold.

Doesn’t even compare mate,to put it in modern times it’s like wolves winning the championship and then the premiership and then the champions league in 3 seasons
