Placing Brazil in pot C on purpose is hardly a huge scandel. That is the total of it.

Cue being called naive....

Totally agree.

This is far from cheating, it's barely a fix at all.

In actual fact, Brazil went in group A (standard practise for the holders at the time - It's now the hosts that this applies to) and France went in Group C. Placing France in Group C meant they couldn't meet Brazil until the final, yes. However, It also meant they played their three group matches at the Stade de France, Stade Vélodrome, and Stade de Gerland which allowed the most fans to see the team (by total capacity across the three matches) so it also benefited fans wanting to take in a home world cup.

The rules now always place the host nation in a very advantageous position in Group A anyway. So what they did back then is basically standard practise now.

A non-story, really.

So , a non-story ? Why do you imagine that Platini brought up the subject ?

Perhaps because he thought it was an interesting insight rather than a 'scandal' or 'cheating'.

He'd hardly bring it up to implicate himself if he himself thought it was a big deal.

A small favour to the hosts and the holders in the draw process. Nothing terribly surprising there. He also said it has been common practise at other world cups.
