Football Ground Ratings

Thought it could be useful to build up a database of ratings for football grounds to help fans decide which away days to go to etc.

criteria:

Fan Experience (/5) - facilities, leg room, extra entertainment, generally how nice the experience is for a fan, taking out the actual football

Atmosphere (/5) - self explanatory

Character (/5) - how much of an identity and ‘soul’ the ground has

Location (/5) - how well connected the ground is to the city/town it’s in and to major transport links, as well as how nice the actual area the ground’s in is

Overall (/100) - weighted average of the above with the top two being multiplied by 6 and the bottom two by 4

Some examples (that I’ve been to this season):

Villa Park (Aston Villa)

Fan Experience - 3/5

Atmosphere - 4/5

Character - 5/5

Location - 2/5

Overall - 70/100

Millwall

Fan experience - 3/5

Atmosphere - 4/5

Character - 1/5

Location - 4/5 (area immediately outside the ground looks pretty grotty but very close to central London. Avoid going by CATS though because it might take forever and a day).

Overall - 63

Surprised you had the Etihad as only a 1 for atmosphere.

Whilst Man City were understandably fair quiet (hardly a glamour game for them), I thought we made a fair old noise.

Judging the ground overall, I thought we were great but the home fans were practically silent and I imagine a standard league game there’d be very little atmosphere

I was going to say the same, I guess the OP meant home atmosphere .

Burton

Fan experience 4/5 .......My first trip and I really enjoyed it

Atmosphere 2/5......... not up to much really, shit game mind.

Character 3/5 ............ Very little character really , but nice little ground they've done well. The size would suit that lot from Horefield, I'd like 'em that far away too.

Location 3/5 .............away from the station but we did have to pass plenty of pubs.

Overall 60

More surprising is the 4/5 for location! There may have been some significant regeneration in east Manchester but the Bradford Berwick areas hardly constitute the city’s elite. On this basis the locations of Elland Road or Portman Road will have to be in the minus figures.

A lot depends on circumstances, Sunderland this season was not a great atmosphere from home fans, but would be different if they were on the up. Chester was a massive difference between 1982 and 1984! Wolves you factor in that we have not won there since 1931.

I based it on the fact that the tram network means getting to and from the ground from central Manchester/your hotel/whatever is very easy. I take your point about the area itself though
