One thing that caught my eye was his comment that: "There’s less downtime, and the less downtime there is the more beautiful our game becomes." Is this true? I always have the impression that there is more downtime now as play is broken up by deliberate fouls, time wasting, more substitutions etc. I think the idea is that FIFA wanted less time wasting and have changed rules like Back passes to the keeper, time limit before the keeper releases the ball ... whether this actually has an affect on the amount of ' game time ' I don't know, perhaps someone can find the stats ?
