Eleven Sports

So being an armchair sports fan is set to become even more expensive with the introduction of a new sports channel called Eleven Sports. They are owned by Andrea Radrizzani, the majority stakeholder of Leeds United. They’ve already outbid sky for the rights to La Liga (that’s right, you won’t be able to watch el Classico on sky sports anymore) they also took Serie A from BT sport and it was announced today that they are to take the NBA and UFC rights from BT sport also. Now I pay a small fortune for sky and bt sports as I’m interested in many different sports. Their prices continue to go up, yet they are losing more and more rights (but if you love kabaddi, hurling and women’s cricket then you’re in luck!) No wonder so many people illegally stream sports these days. Sky had it good for so long, until bt came along and took the champions league from them and a fair chunk of premier league games as well as the Ashes. And now someone else has come along and taken popular sports from both of them. Of course this new channel will get plenty of subscribers but it’s got to get to the point where these companies start struggling because they’ve paid too much to win the rights to the EPL and champions league and there won’t be enough people willing to shell out for it all.

What are your thoughts? What packages do you currently pay for? If you don’t pay for any then how do you watch sports? How much are you willing to pay a month to have access to all the sports you enjoy? At what point do you say enough is enough and you cancel it all?
