The OP has a fair point - this is only the second opening day the redeveloped stadium has been fully operational so it’s a pointless stat.

A much more impactful one would’ve been “City set for biggest opening day home crowd since XXXX.”

Thank you, that was exactly the point I was trying to make!  I am all for the club trying to put itself forward in the best possible way, but why come out with what is, as you say, a pointless stat.

On the official site there is a quote on how wonderful it is that we will be getting the highest crowd for an opening home game since the stadium redevelopment (sorry having a bit of an issue copying/pasting).

As this is only the 2nd opening game since the redevelopment (if you remember 2 seasons ago the Upper Lansdown and much of the lower Lansdown was not available for use for the opening game against Wigan), the article is basically saying that this season we will get a higher attendance for out home game against Forest this season than we did for our home game against Barnsley last season!  Is this really worth giving a "big-up", think it would have been shocking if we had sold less tickets than for the Barnsley game?.

I wouldn't have been aware of it unless it was mentioned on here...

Just to put a positive spin on how far we’ve come, Preston NE had a measley 13k for there opening game, we were getting those short of figures no so long back...  Not trying to sound like LJ but That’s Progress if you like?

Measly? The population of Preston is 114k. That’s half the size of Swindon.

Plus with United, City and Liverpool all the on the doorstep it is not easy attracting new fans / the younger generation of football supporters to Deepdale.

It's also quite expensive to watch PNE week in week out, given the (lack of) wealth in the Preston area.

We don't do too bad, given the circumstances, although there's no doubt that we can do better.

You should count yourself lucky. Imagine trying to compete with the world’s best loved club on your doorstep, like we have too..!
