bs20ciderarmy
I’m very happy we seem to have a plan of how we want to play our football and imo once all the signings get the full understanding can only see us getting better. I would much rather watch my team try and play football then defend defend Andy try get a lucky goal. Everyone is different though.
Johnny Musicworks
To play Devils Advocate, there is an assumption that if Plan A doesn’t work after 60/70 minutes then you use Plan B. On the other hand if you have belief that Plan A will win you most games over 90 minutes (as Pep has said) then why have a Plan B which psychologically tells the other team (and others) that it can be beaten and that they can dictate that. The promoted clubs last year generally stuck to their Plan A and reaped the benefits, maybe we will do the same.

Bolton allow you to play in front of them. They allow you the ball. Its hard to run teams ragged who sit in, its hard to increase tempo versus teams that deny space in then final third … Its simply another challenge. Its no reason to change an approach after 180 minutes of football. Teams having more possession than City last season were promoted (two), one having less was promoted. The OP poster stated " Were we playing ineffective tippy tap football with little or no real end product. This was us last year. Sean Dyche commented this week that having loads possession means nothing as proved by the World Cup . Many teams won games with 25% possession." It does not bare scrutiny. It was not many teams. No team got to the semi final having 25% possession. Looking at top leagues England, Germany, Spain all won by possession dominating teams proves nothing either. Fans should look at players and systems. Little detail BCFC and tippy tappy (whatever it means)? Bristol City's last season average passing length was one metre shorter than? CARDIFF. A fact. As Bristol City passing length increased from January the team became more ineffectual. Lots of detail and % there but its about approach, players and being committed to a style of play and that applies to successful teams be they Wolves, Fulham or Cardiff. This- absolutely this- particularly the bolded bits. Still think letting them- if they will take the challenge- giving them some possession, and capitalising on their mistakes for periods could be a tweak for games, particularly away from home, such as this. Numero Uno
Possession is great......if you have the movement in forward areas to go with it. Which is why you can’t stick 11 behind the ball and get a result v Man City every week!! At least Johnson seems to have identified that from Saturday and it will be interesting to see if we display the “bravery” he alluded to against a genuine contender on Saturday. Can we recreate the football we played when the game became desperate at Bolton when its 0-0 on Saturday?

I’m not sure that they did. Wolves and Fulham’s Plan A was fast fluid football that overwhelmed teams so don't think they needed an alternative and Cardiff just routinely ground teams down with solid aggression and teamwork. Warnock has never had a plan B anywhere that he’s been, unless bullying refs is Plan B if things don’t go his way. Our Plan B (ie, forget everything up to that point and lump it forward) seemed to become Plan A from Xmas.

We were for sure the better side but with so much of the ball we should be creating so much more Whilst I agree we pass the ball sideways a bit too often we were ahead in just about every stat on Saturday so unfair to say no end product, shots 16 v 7, on target 5 v 2, corners 10 v 4, fouls 6 v 20 (they beat us on that one)
