Hi everyone, here is another new poster to get your teeth in to,. Very long time reader of this forum, also used to like the BBC chat page. Decided to finally join up and pay to support the forum as it has given me so much enjoyment over the years. Born and raised in Frampton Cotterell/ Winterbourne, first game was home to Southampton in 1974, and a regular attendee until I left Bristol in 1983, now live in Medicine Hat, Canada, so only a long distance fan now but avid searcher for feeds of our matches and following the forum matchday thread when I am unable to watch! Much respect for all you lucky people who go to see City play, I can't wait to get to see the new Ashton Gate when I come over to Bristol later this year. Here's to a great end of this season. Bless you all

There are a ton of City supporters all over North America...if you come into chat box on a match day you will meet a few....

Welcome MadHatter, enjoy all the ups and downs of OTIB, there are quite a lot of expats on this forum, who find this is the only way to be informed,  but don't believe everything you read. I am hoping to get over with my lovely Russian wife later in the season, a playoff game at AG would be great.  Who knows!

Hi lads and lasses. I looked for a "new posters" sub thread, so if I missed it, sorry Mods.

Basically, I need some City updates. I moved down to Portishead from Liverpool circa 1975 ish, and cos Ashton Gate was the nearest ground, me and me Dad, both Everton fans, started going to the games. Orient at home was the the first I can recall. But I do remember watching the City/Leeds cup match on telly when Gerry Gow bossed the game. (RIP). I was home and sometimes away right though the 1st Div years, and also through the darker days that followed. Took my girlfriend on a first date to watch the City/Hereford 2nd leg FRT win at the gate!

Then kids and life and stuff meant I stopped going regularly. Last home game was probably either the 3 2 (?) home against the gas at Christmas, (when they scored after 30 seconds) or an Everton cup match. (On Everton, my first love, I was there when Joe Royle scored 4 against Borough on debut, and when John Bailey bundled in the winner against that lot!)

City have far from been shown up when on telly recently, United, City and West Ham for example, so IF we sneak a play off, and get up, what would be the priorities for SL and LJ, player wise?

Sorry in advance if that topic has been done to death btw.

Welcome Roydo!

Welcome to the madhouse.

I am so jealous that you live in Alberta. I've been there 5 times (Jasper, Banff etc) and I adore the place. Fantastic people, scenery and standard of life. Throughout all of my travels around this wonderful planet Canada is my favourite place of the lot apart from Pilton at the end of June but thats for an entirely different reason.

Basic update/summary.

We are crap.

LJ doesn't know his arse from his elbow, doesn't know his best team and is only ever one game away from his next horrendous run of form.

We are too defensive, have no midfield and shot shy strikers.

We should, but don't spend big money on player that would give us certain promotion, this despite the owner being a billionaire and the father of the head coach, who in turn is the father of Jamie Patterson, as this is surely the only reason for his continued selection during the unbeaten run that has taken us to a couple of points from the play offs.

That we are on such a good run is entirely down to the failings of our opponents and our good luck, as we've been pretty crap throughout it. It's got little to do with the head coach's efforts.

Neil Warnock would have got us to the premier league in any one of the last 3 seasons despite him now being 109 year of age.

Having said that, all is not lost, as the owner and head coach have ready access to the consultative facility that is OTIB, and on which they can find a ready answer and solution to every problem the club and team has to face, as within the forum we have posters who are expert in every aspect of owning and running a championship club including scouting, and player purchases and  also managing and coaching a championship team ( including tactics, formations team selections and appropriate substitutions).

Seriously, every poster loves the club, wants the best for it and all share the excitement, frustrations and regular disappointment ( and that's just the average game - apart from home games that lack the excitement part!) that is part and parcel of being a Bristol City fan. As others have said,  this might just be one of the best football fans'  forums out there.

Welcome aboard - it won't take long before we drag you down to our level!

Thanks RED4LIFE, yes it is a good life out here, I live right close to US border so a 3 hour drive to get to Calgary and a 9 hour drive to work and then home every 10 days! My wife desperately wants to go to Glastonbury festival so we will have to try harder to get tickets!

Wow, 9 hour drive to work. That's some commute.

Strangely, I was in a bar in Jasper in 2004 and got chatting to some local who actually went to Glastonbury in 2003. In a town of less than 3000 people I found that amazing. He said it was the best time of his life and told me how lucky I was to live 45mins away from the site. I suppose when Canada is so big and your nearest town can be a few hours drive away (or a 9hr commute to work for example), he does have a point.

He did say every 10 days. I do similar from France.

Open end for me as my elder brother "liked to be close" to the away fans. Had my first beers in Castle Park before the game, Tartan iirc

East End for the first time for me, up on the train from Taunton with a load of mates.

I got infected by the virus within about ten minutes and haven`t been able to shake it off for 44 years!

You'd prefer that she doesn't though!

Apparently BigTone is so notorious amongst a certain group of ladies he sees regularly he's known as 'Tone the Bone,' and 'Boney Tony.':liar::shocking:

Yes, such is his unbridled enthusiasm at the weekly knitting circle that the rapid movement of his ungainly elbows have led to numerous injuries to his fellow knitting devotees. :(

Some OTIB advice

Avoid BBSB he’s a ****

Avoid Septic Peg she will eat you alive

Make sure you are a mate of Robbored’s he could use you

LJ Lover or Hater we need to know?

And don’t expect DollyMarie to help you as now she’s gotta bloke she is never here.

However I was just thinking the same thing in a daydream kind of way. If we were too go up and Cardiff go down I think we might see the return of Young Bobby (Reid). The amount of young players we have on loan will become a factor. As you probably know Semenyo is attracting admiring glances and he is only 18. Also Does Kelly go. We have an option with Desilva if he wants to stay and if we go up, why not!....The rest is dependent on how LJ would set us up!..

I’m still here, and I can still ban ya y’know!:bruce_h4h:

You should remember @roydo that everybody on here was a first time poster at some point and, myself excluded, was somewhat shy and gauche at their first typings.

The rule is that your view is as important as anyone else's, bar mine obviously, and that there is no clique of "in" posters owing to the many thousand posters on here and the huge volume of postings.

I don't think we're going up this season but am delighted at the season so far as there is now no relegation threat.

Remember that there is only one rule on OTIB: no puns.

And especially, whatever you do, no fish jokes - you'll get battered.
