You think our fans will give him that long?

He needs to start converting chances pretty quickly imo. Especially great opportunities like he had yesterday. Otherwise he'll start getting a reputation for fluffing one-on-ones like Baldock did.

It’s true, up to a point, but Baldock earned his rep after a couple of dozen games ably assisted by SoD telling everybody about it every time he missed another one on one.

Thought Palmer was class, three lovely passes putting Afobe in twice and Rowe. Afobe could have probably done better with the first effort, but seemed to get a two handed shove in the back on the 2nd which unbalanced him on the second. The pass to Rowe was just awesome to see. If we he can create like that in a team that has is rusty with new faces then it bodes well.

Also was nice to see Rowe score, he seemed to be the low key, backup utility player of this window and it was nice to see him give a solid if unspectacular (until the goal) performance.

But by now Palmer was running the show, dropping deep, holding off opponents and looking for passes, and in the 83rd minute it told - dominating midfield he spied a 20 yard angle to left wing, Famara dragging defenders as Rowe raced in to laser into the far corner.

Great report as always Rob.

Just one small point of order though. It was Afobe who cleared the space, moving the defenders away from the ball for Palmer to find Rowe with that sublime pass.

Just wanted to ensure credit was given where it’s due to Afobe. Intelligence & awareness in action.

Palmer was mainly not good enough last season because Fam hasn't got any movement. And Fam wasn't good enough when someone like Palmer was behind him because Palmer is not a runner that gets onto Diedhiou's second balls.

Now Palmer has Afobe, that makes all the difference. Maybe next step in January will be to get another like Afobe, unless LJ can work a way of getting the best out of both Palmer and Diedhiou in the same side if Afobe is injured.

Players need to find a way of complimenting each other, and so far Palmer and Diedhiou generally haven't.

Palmer can play with Diedhiou providing we play our out and out wingers to provide that movement and we build through midfield rather than hitting Fam early.

What I like about our squad is we have the ability to play a number of different styles providing we assess the opposition's weaknesses.
