As I said, nearly every footballer is there to play football, money is just a part of it. 

Obviously some people are in it for the money, but I'd guess 95% of footballers just want to play. And looking at O'Neills career I'd say he's one of them

Yep, and the talk at the time was as much about what he brought to the team off-field as on it.

I do think Bogarde was a real exception to the rule...but he has spawned the notion that lots of pro players are happy not to play.  I don’t believe that is true in 99% of cases.
