Where are they now?

I spent the afternoon at Twerton Park watching an abject Bath City capitulate to St Albans City, 3-0.  I recall us playing St Albans in an early round of the FA Cup in the 1990s and coming out 9-2 winners.

Anyway, the point of me posting is that St Albans were captained by none other than old favourite David Noble, a few days after his 37th birthday.  He didn’t do much running (no change there, you might suggest) but controlled the centre of the park.  I had a few words with him at the end and pointed out that his goal and celebration at Selhurst Park are still up on the screen before every match at Ashton Gate.  He seemed pleased to remember his days wearing the red shirt.  Good on him to be still playing in the lower divisions - nice to know that there are still a few players prepared to ‘go down the leagues’ in the latter part of their careers.

David Noble works for his brothers building company during the week.... I know he’s late 30’s now but he must regret being a piss head in his prime, genuinely think he could of gone on to better things!

bit like me really if I didn’t get so pissed from the age of 16 onwards failing my A levels I reckon I would of been a better boss now and I’m a self employed sole trader

He was always one of my favourite players to watch. Excellent midfielder, brilliant to watch. One of the most gifted players I've seen for us (since 2005-ish) just below JET.

GJ never quite got the best out of him consistently and perhaps he never had the athleticism or workrate for how GJ wanted us to play.

I think perhaps football came easy to him, he had natural ability and didn't have to work at it the way some do. This made it easy to enjoy being a footballer, the lifestyle choice, rather than progressing in the game. i guess the balance he had between playing and socialising suited him, he didn't want more. At least he is still playing now, many can't.
