Admin Maesknoll Red Posted April 17, 2020 Admin Report Share Posted April 17, 2020 So, whilst trying to while away the hours, I tried to put together my favourite City team - not necessarily the team I thought the best, but the players I have enjoyed watching the most over the years, the ones who made trips to the Gate enjoyable, got me off my seat or just felt right at the time. I've put mine below, I'd be interested to see others thoughts. My choices maybe snapshots of two enjoyable times, Alan Dicks promotion and Joe Jordans promotion team. It's been tricky, had to leave loads out - Dave Smith, Jackie, Junior, Martin Scott, Leroy Rosenior and many more... I'll allow the 11, 7 subs and an Assistant Manager who wasn't assistant, but is your second choice. Manager: Alan Dicks Assistant Manager: Joe Jordan GK: Basso RB: Andy Llewellyn LB: Mickey Bell DF: Norman Hunter, Rob Newman Mid: Mark Gavin, Clive Whitehead Wingers: Chris Garland, Scott Murray FWD: Bob Taylor, Wayne Allison Subs: Gary Shelton, Brian Tinnion, Mark Shail, Aiden Flint, Jamie Mccombe, Alan Walsh, Joe Royle

Norman Hunter & Shaun Taylor, nothing much is getting past them two. I might tweak left back though, much as I loved Brian Drysdale I think I`d put Martin Scott or Darren Barnard in there. Hampshire reds
i find it impossible to find the strongest 11. we have had so many quality players. take left back for one position. how can you pick who was the best left back out of the following. Drysdale. Scott. Merrick. Barnard. Bell. Brennan. Bailey. Bryan. if i really had to pick one i would go with Martin Scott. But so tough.

You`d lose Barnard`s attacking qualities but Scott was a far better defender. I`ll never forget him having Mark Walters in his pocket all game at Anfield and that was by no means a one-off performance - he did it week in week out. Funny how five of those great left backs` names began with B - a note to our scouts perhaps!
