Accrington haven’t spent a fortune to get where they are so they are not burdened by debt. If a club, that’s promoted, keeps basically the same squad the expenditure remains basically the same costs don’t increase. On the other hand gates, sponsorship, TV income etc will increase. This process will probably result in relegation but the club should go down with more money than it had when it went up. Yes, whi h is basically what I was saying about what Wycombe are doing. Although I think you are forgetting the increase in wages associated with promotion to this level.

You kind of want the dad to appear and say "Drink milk out of a glass not the bottle, and don't grow up to be a plastic glory hunter, you little bastard!" It’s a common misconception. But Accrington FC (a separate club and cross town rivals of Stanley) were founder members of the football league.

I did know that, which is why I sort of qualified my statement, but actually Accrington FC and Accrington Stanley were only rivals for 5 years, and Stanley was formed as a breakaway club from the original Accrington with many of their players and directors. So I bent the truth a bit, but in a way Stanley (again, it's a new club now. The one formed in Victorian times went bust in 1966) were the descendants of that founder club.
