Apparently Rovers had 2 hours to get what they needed to done so

a) why wasn’t everything in place to assume it would be a yes to save time

or

b) if you’re running close to the deadline and as Barton put it ‘seconds out’ then why not submit an extension form to the EFL/FA that allows you a little extra time so long an agreement is in place

Because the lady acting as Rovers club secretary has no experience in football.

She runs her own business providing HR services to small companies in Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire and S Wales.

Judging by that interview with Darren Ferguson, they had more than enough time to sort the deal - sounds like a bit of a game has been played by Wally!

Making it look to the Gas ‘Eds that they were prepared to invest nigh on a million quid (and a big, three year contract for JCB), only for it to not then happen.

What an unprofessional outfit they’ve proven to be yet again

Wonder if they are as qualified as the physio the Fewers had who wasn't qualified to go on the pitch.

Ah didn’t realise Famara won the Championship golden boot twice when we signed him!

Kalas as I later clarified could be agreed as a top proven championship player. Still was 4 years ago.

Point is, We have spent millions upon millions. Probably over 20m in the last 5 years (a guess)

Rovers spend 800k once and suddenly they are ambitious and we’re not ??‍♂️

To quote my own post is slightly unnecessary, but wasn't it the dog botherer who sacked the physio and then found out they needed one to be able to fulfil fixtures? Wasn't it around 2015/2016.

According to companies house these people are the company secretary.  But it looks like Louise Smith has/is fulfilling several roles at the sags.

Darren Ferguson's comments for those who haven't or can't be arsed to, listen to the interview:

“It was a very hectic last day but up until 10 to 11, it was quite smooth. Jonno travelled with the team in the morning, we had the team meeting about Portsmouth and he would have been in the team, he played very well last week.

“At about five o’clock the chairman told me there might be a chance that he’ll get permission to talk to Bristol and at quarter to six, I went down to see him and we agreed it was the right time for him to move on. He was getting a three-year deal at 29, which is very good, and a large part of his family is down there.

“He got in the car, Liz (Elsom, Head of Football Operations) sent over the agreement at 8:30, which they agreed with and told us so at nine o’clock. At ten to 11, we were told he was still not registered. You can put a request in to get another 15 minutes and they didn’t do that until 20 past 11. Unbelievable, we were just like ‘what?’

“They just failed to get him registerd, nothing else can be done. That’s the danger if you leave it until the last minute to try and sign someone rather than doing it three or four days previous. That’s the risk they run and they’ve made a mistake. We did everything we could.”

Looking at the statement above, if we imagine that JCH left Portsmouth to travel up to Bristol at around 6pm, he would have got there for around 8 to 8:30. It's roughly a 2 hour journey.

That fits nicely with the time line. The Posh send over the paperwork at 8:30 and the Sags agree to the deal at 9pm.

According to a statement from the circus, there were some changes to the paperwork that held things up. This clearly can't be the case if Ferguson is telling the truth as the Sags agreed the paperwork at 9pm. The only changes after that point must have come from JCH or his agent if there were any. Either way, 2 hours should have been more than enought time to sort all of that out and send the registration paperwork in to the FA.

As Ferguson said, it is possible to send in an agreement form and get a short extension to enable the paperwork to be finalised after 11pm. This cearly wasn't done.

So, there are a few questions that need asking:

1) Why, if he wanted the move, didn't JCH press the Sags to get the deal done after the two clubs had agreed terms at 9pm?

2) If Ferguson is correct and the agreement between the clubs took place at 9pm then who was responsible for the paperwork changes after that point?

3) Why didn't the Sags send in the relevant paperwork to extend the deadline?

Let me get this right. You can request a 15 minute extension of the 11pm deadline but they didn't do so until 11.20? Was Wael's nice watch not working?

From the EFL Website:

What is a quick application?

If a club is in a ‘Full Application’ at 22:30:00, they will receive a warning that states the system will open a ‘Quick Application’ at 22:45:00, where only certain fields need to be completed.

In those last 15 minutes of the Transfer Window, EFL systems allow Clubs to submit the necessary registration form without completing the full application process. Where they do this, the Clubs then have a further 15 minutes to then complete the full application process. This avoids Clubs missing the deadline in circumstances where they have agreed and signed all necessary documents with another Club and the player before 11pm, but still need time to complete the full application.

Sorry is this related to something earlier in the thread?

If you are thinking these people are responsible for the deadline day debacle, that's not correct.

My wife worked for a firm until she retired, supplying Company Secretary services, she had up to 900 Companies in her portfolio at any one time. She had nothing to do with the day to day running of them, she just ensured that they complied with all the legal requirements around changes to Directorships, filings at Companies House, etc.

Having your own CSA is expensive, which is why many Companies, big and small outsource it. Lots of people don't realise this however, hence the fact they would often get bailiffs at their offices demanding payments. :)

I don't know anyone at Taylor Wessing, but I am sure they would like to be distanced from any blame in this case.

It's not fair looking to put blame on gAss staff, it's not like this happens a lot.
Yeah, planning thing , but that wasn't their fault and this is wholly down to the EFL refusing the changes to the contract at the last minute. Now I obviously don't know what the changes were, but if you have been working on something for weeks, why leave it until the last minute to change things with a deadline looming ?

Rovers did address their supporters though with a statement ; It read:

"This morning an EFL representative confirmed that our contract application for Jonson Clarke-Harris was rejected.

"The club had worked throughout the day to agree terms with Peterborough, the player and his representatives, however, late changes to the deal prevented it being completed.

"The outcome is a disappointing one for all involved however, everything possible was done to finalise the agreement and register the required documents with the EFL ahead of the deadline."

If it was us, we would be fuming on here.
Joey , quoted on Bristol Live ( which they probably got from his Twitter feed) ;

after being asked about a potential January return for Clarke-Harris, who's in the final 12 months of his contract at London Road: "I don't know. January is a long way away. I might not even be sitting in the seat. You've got to take care of business every single week."

Planning an escape ??
