Popular Post Jerseybean
Good day City fans everywhere. Today (at 1230) we have Robins v Bluebirds, Pearson v McCarthy, England v Wales and two sets of fans who aren’t overly keen on each other the game is followed by the International break and the dying embers of the transfer window. Dewch arnoch chi Cochin, as they say in Wales! Cardiff City Stadium and Ashton Gate are separated by approximately 44 miles, a river and a pair of bridges. Over the years, the Severnside Derby has developed into an eagerly anticipated clash for fans and players alike, providing some unforgettable memories, including the iconic image of our now kitman celebrating his second goal in a fine 3-1 win 20 years ago. I couldn’t resist sharing this version with a bit of a Banksy-twist. A much less enjoyable memory being the 6-0 thrashing we took in 2010 with Gary Johnson in charge. Looking at the history Cardiff have recorded 36 wins, there have been 21 draws and 39 City wins. Although the outcome of our last 23 league encounters does not make such pretty reading, Cardiff have won 13, we’ve won 6 and there have been 4 draws, with the aggregate score over the last 23 games being Cardiff 36 City 22. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/six-of-the-best-the-severnside-derby/ No doubt it’s going to be a battle, especially given the aerial power they posses, with all eight of their goals, so far this campaign, coming from headers. Wonder if NP will start with Kalas, Baker and Atkinson? Callum O'Dowda and Joe Williams definitely will not be feature. Cardiff have started well and are currently sitting in sixth place having won two and drawn two of their four league games. They were beaten 2-0 by Brighton on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup, when captain Sean Morrison went off injured, so is a doubt. There are of course ex-City players involved with Marlon Pack (1 goal this season) and Aden Flint (4 goals this season and currently top scorer in the league) both regulars, while Lee Tomlin is struggling to secure a place in the squad, (Marley Watkins’ short stay has come to an end.) Considering we failed to score against another Welsh team last time out and Cardiff are in good form this - as with all Championship matches - is going to be a tough game. Unfortunately, and I really hope I’m proved wrong, sense back-to-back defeats by Welsh opponents, just can’t see us returning across the bridge with any points, I’m predicting Cardiff City 3 Bristol City 1 and our first red card of the season. In a bid to lift the mood this is the most relevant, non-offensive, non-racist, non-sheep-shagging joke I have. My wife asked me if I was having an affair with a woman from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch. I said: ‘How can you say such a thing?’ To the traveling hordes (all 2,453 away tickets have sold out) be loud and proud and have a safe day. South Wales Police have confirmed that licensed premises will not be opening their doors to travelling fans. Cardiff City Stadium will therefore open at 10.30am where refreshments, including alcoholic beverages, will be available. The stadium is the only place where away supporters will be able to purchase alcohol before the match and only card/contactless payments will be available. There will be no cash sales. To end, here are a few bits of trivia, most of which are completely unrelated to football: > The 1927 FA Cup Final between Cardiff City and Arsenal was the first football final broadcast live on the ‘wireless’ by the BBC and Cardiff’s 1-0 win meant another first, with the cup going to a non-English team. > In 2001 Cardiff City signed English player Spencer Prior and jokingly included a contract clause that he would be obliged ‘to have a physical liaison with a sheep’, in response to their fans being called sheep-shaggers. > Cardiff is also known as the City of Arcades. It has the biggest concentration of Victorian, Edwardian and modern-day indoor shopping arcades in Britain. > The Principality Millennium Stadium has one of the largest sliding roofs in the world and is the second largest stadium in the world with a fully retractable roof. It also currently uses falcons to scare off pigeons and small birds. > Westgate Street in the centre of the city used to be a river. > Flat Holm is part of Wales, it actually forms part of the City of Cardiff and Steep Holm is part of North Somerset. > Cardiff has the oldest record store in the world. Spiller’s dates back to 1894 and it used to sell wax records for the newly invented phonograph! > Mass graves were found in the city centre in the 1960s. When Capital Tower, Cardiff's first high-rise building, was built in 1967 the builders uncovered mass grave pits from the time of Black Death. PS To hopefully save another thread, yes, it is on the red button. 18 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Son of Fred
At risk of getting bullied today.....I'm sure Nigel will advise accordingly,so could get spicy! Id like to see Kalas, Baker & Atkinson start to help counter the bombing mission/long throw assault.. Maybe a played by Nigel?? Britton on the bench? wendyredredrobin
With our current win ratio, I don't come into today filled with any confidence at all bearing in mind Cardiff's physicality and our lack of same. That usually means that come 5 pm we will be coming back across the bridge with 3 points in the bag though. Realistically a draw would probably be a good result bearing in mind our current plight. Yes,,,if were hanging in there with 20 or so to go I think young Britton would be ideal today - Extra height & plenty of aggression.. 3 Quote Link to comment

Easy pub for a beer I thought we put out a statement yesterday which said no away fans in any pub before the game and off licences restricting sales. The only place you can drink is inside the stadium which opens at 10.30 Quote Link to comment

Red_Alligator
Looks like a home banker today, so I'll go for a sneaky 0-1 complete with Aden Flint own goal. Why not?! 1 Quote Link to comment
maxjak
Flint has to score today, it is almost the banker of the day? So I'll go 0-0. PS. In reality. I see Flint and Pack scoring and a 2-0 defeat Quote Link to comment

Dan Robin
Honestly I expect a loss with a former player's goal (probably Flint), but I'll listen to the match, hoping for a better result. COYR! Quote Link to comment

Davefevs
So if everyone is predicting a Cardiff win (with a Flint or Pack goal), should we lose, everyone will be chilled, because it’s what you expected….right? 1 5 Quote Link to comment

Feels a bit like some kind of groundhog day today. Will the improvement (I'm not convinced, but people seem to think) under NP, finally deliver a result to match and begin a good run of results, as we can build on it, with some confidence, during international break. Or, will we get stuffed, with ex players rubbing salt in the wound, turning things very sour. Of course we could lose, yet still see positives - but if we get tonked, with no real sign of game on game progress, then how long can the results under NP remain tenable..? Fingers crossed for at least a point today and a relatively positive atmosphere around the camp going into the break. Quote Link to comment
