Therein lies the problem. Barnsley had two big centre halves and City kept hitting long balls to 5’ 10” tall Martin who can’t jump very high. As Albert Einstein said:

”The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”

Exactly - Over to you coaching staff.

Have to have a target man for direct style football.

Their 2 CHs today were absolute monsters !

If you don’t have one in the pitch you can play differently.  And even if you do go direct, you have to be better at picking up loose balls.  We showed we could get in down the sides several times today.  Martin really needed to come shorter and drag his CB with him and create more space in behind.

Think he is told to stay high but as you say after a few minutes today you could tell it wasn't going to work and it could have been altered.

Yep, if he stayed high, it leaves less room for Wells and leaves a hole between attack and midfield….which is where Barnsley picked up cheap possession.

It surprises me and disappoints me in equal measure.

A goal line clearance and ANOTHER assist for the winning goal not bad for a striker not putting in a shift those 2 actions won us the game ?‍♂️
What is a striker to do without supply???

Find the Martin scapegoating very frustrating to be honest any striker would struggle in this team I assure you!

Agreed.

If we didn’t have him, and his goals, where would we be?

Relegation zone anyone?

Like many others out there today and for more months than I care to remember he isn’t good enough for a progressive, footballing side.

But then out of that shower of shit who is?

All very well prancing about to One Step Beyond and mutual back slapping. All very well singing about how much we all love Capn Dan and him shaking his head in disbelief at the end of 90 minutes.

Fact of the matter as far as I can see is we were lucky. And poor. And unless Stevie L backs Big Nige we're going to be in for many more seasons of football like that.

The monkey might be off our backs tonight but the ****** is still up the tree, looking down and grinning. ?

When you really think about it that quote is flawed.

Whole point of training, practicing the same things over & over to get better/different results.

Equally, Roll the same dice. Back the same horse. Play same pass. Etc Different result almost everytime.

People knocking Weimann with the ‘he runs around a lot’ tag is laughable when that really is part of the problem. We have nine out field players that don’t run around enough. It’s why we get passed through so much. Ten effing men just beat us 3/1 in 45 minutes as they had more stamina and nouse than an an entire team.  We can’t even track players or run back marking them. What shit is this.

No guarantee he will continue scoring at this rate but for a guy who has played several games on the wing too, 7 in 17 is very good (plus two assists).

We talk about a 20 goal a season striker or even a 15-plus and say as long as they get in the 6 yard box that’s what matters, yet this guy does a lot more and we slag him off.

I don’t think he’s been as consistent this season, but there’s no guarantee spending £5m gets you a better goal return.

There are other problems in the team to solve first.
