Geography is such a huge barrier for Argyle, there is only one FL club in a 100 mile radius & despite in my opinion being a bigger club than Preston, they struggle to recruit & retain both players & managers.

I remember when Paul Sturrock was manager & they won back to back titles he said that he used to meet prospective signings in Taunton & try & get the deal done before they realised how far away they would be moving.

Unless they concentrate on West Country talent (& interesting to me that 2 of our ex players James Wilson & Joe Edwards are both down there) this is always going to be an issue for them.

Swansea pretty similar in terms of being an outpost but they've done alright.

I am very jealous of Preston right about now.

We should have got Lowe 18 months ago instead of pursuing Gerrard, Hughton and ending up with Holden

I know quite a few people with the same opinion.
In about 10 years I think we’ll look back and you will be proven right.

Guess so, but only 40 miles from Cardiff & then a similar amount from us, all motorway too, so it just doesn’t feel far away.

Plymouth really does seem isolated in football terms every away game is a huge journey.

Further to my apology - do you mean Argyle is the only club in a 100 mile radius? Or do you mean Exeter?

I meant Exeter is the only other FL club within 100 miles of Plymouth, as Torquay & Yeovil are now both non league.

On the flip side they have a huge catchment area. So if they scouted well and early enough then they could and should do better IMO. I know they don't have an Academy set up like City have but they just have no presence anywhere in Devon and Cornwall. The catchment area for supporters is also huge but they are fickle as f@ck. As someone who has been around the local football season at a decent standard in Devon I feel the huge barrier you refer to is also part in there own making.

That maybe so, but as someone who also lived in South Devon for 35 years and also played football their for many years they do have a big sleeping support.

In the 70s early 80s they had coaches coming from North Devon every home Saturday game  and support from Cornwall. Where i lived they had a pretty good folowing too.

Argyle to me are on a level with us, they would attract crowds as we do on a level playing field.
