Bristol Rob
The article doesn't really explain why crowd trouble is on the rise.

As far as I can gather, having talked to a French copper about this recently, the sanctions for such violence are not enough of a deterrent. In some cases, the fans involved are only banned from stadiums for a few matches rather than for a number of years or life. 1
Red7
This article sheds a bit of light on the situation, although it doesn't explain the reasons behind the violence. I guess that idiots will always find somewhere to be idiots until they are stopped. https://www.thelocal.fr/20211122/what-is-france-doing-to-stop-a-surge-in-football-violence/
Bristol Rob
Probably lockdowns, unemployment and social unrest as the cause.

Unemployment is unsurprisingly a massive impact on social unrest and football is just a microcosm of society.
