Popular Post Jerseybean
Happy New Year fellow-Reds. First game of 2022 and it’s Millwall at Ashton Gate at 1 pm and it’s on the red button. I enjoyed our performance on Thursday and so hoping for more of the same today, we will be without Andy King, Nathan Baker, Joe Williams and George Tanner. Earlier in the season they beat us 1-0 at their place thanks to a penalty converted by substitute Jed Wallace, who scored after just four minutes of being introduced. We managed just one shot on target! CF took charge that day as NP was unwell with Covid. Head to head it’s pretty even, we have won 36, lost 34 and drawn 32, although our recent form against them has been poor of the last eleven league games against them we’ve lost six, drawn four and won just once, however, we did beat them 3-0 in the FA Cup last January with goals from Diédhiou, Wells and Semenyo. Ahead of kick off they are mid table on 33 points. Their recent form is drawn three, lost two and won two so nine points from a possible 21, which compares with the eight points we have from our last seven games. On Wednesday they were away at Coventry a game they won thanks to Tom Bradshaw's late goal which gave a depleted Millwall victory. The Lions were down to their final 14 first-team players and included 15-year-old Zak Lovelace as a substitute after injury and positive Covid-19 tests hit their squad. Top goalscorer this season: Tom Bradshaw (6) Top assists: Jed Wallace (6). My neighbour is a die-hard Millwall fan and has this to say ‘On the football front I would sum up our season as results wise pleased, entertainment wise disappointed. We play very safe and it has led to lots of dull games where we don’t create many chances. We’ve had a couple of games when things have gone well but seem to follow them up with really poor performances straight afterwards. Main bright spots are the young players coming through. The right back Danny McNamara is a Millwall fan and central midfielder, Billy Mitchell plays like he’s been on the terraces all his life. He’s had covid though so not sure if he will play. His game is all action so hopefully he is not fatigued. If he does play I think you’ll see a future premier league player.’ George Evans and Ben Thompson should both be back in contention, although it’s unlikely that Jed Wallace will be back as he is struggling with his quad. Current player connections are Benik Afobe who is on a season long loan to them from Stoke City, Matt Smith (who had a successful loan spell with us in the 2014-15 season) and George Saville (who we had on a short loan, he made eight appearances scoring once for us before returning to his parent club Wolves.) Today’s programme: https://robinstv.bcfc.co.uk/digital-matchday-programme/ Millwall musings From 1964 to January 1967, Millwall went on a record unbeaten home run of 59 matches without defeat (W43, D16). The Lions scored 112 goals and kept 35 clean sheets during that period. Millwall’s biggest ever victory was a 9-1 Division 3S win over Torquay United in September 1927. There are three teams that the Lions have never beaten in the Championship – Yeovil Town, Southampton and Rotherham United. Seven windmills once stood on the western side of the Isle of Dogs, helping to give this part of the island the name ‘Millwall’. The ‘wall’ was in fact a great bank of earth and stones, perhaps dating back to Roman times and certainly in use by the early Middle Ages. This bank of earth kept the river from flooding the island at high tide, allowing the surrounding land to be cultivated for farmland. The club's ground The Den doubled as The Dragons Lair, home ground of fictional team Harchester United in the television series Dream Team. It also appeared in episodes of the shows The Bill and Primeval. Frank Fielding joined them in 2019 when he left us but only made one appearance before going to Stoke on a short-term contract. Well known fans include, Danny Baker, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis, Andy Fordham, David Haye, Lord Ouseley and Gary Oldman. Marvin Elliott came through their academy he appeared 144 times for Millwall before joining us in 2007 (he departed BCFC in 2014) scoring 25 goals in 242 appearances. He was named as a member of PFA team of the year in 2008. This game, like most of ours this season, I think is likely to be settled by a one goal difference, reckon if we play like we did on Thursday we will win 2-1 however, anything less and we will lose 1-2. 20 9 Quote Link to comment

A one game pass to RobinsTV is available for a tenner. They do monthly as well, if you are here for any length of time. Incidentally, where in Thailand? 1 Quote Link to comment

I watch Robins TV here in Thailand every week. Is a "BCTV subscription" the same as a monthly/annual Robins TV subscription ? If it is, then just log in as per normal ( I do it through my laptop to my TV via HDMI cable.) 1 Quote Link to comment

ralphindevon
I had intended going to the QPR game and missing today but one thing and another it’s worked out the other way round. So, I’m starting the new year in an optimistic mood. Not only a first win against them at home for 10 years and a day but it’ll be by more than one goal. Im really struggling to remember going into the final few minutes of a game with a comfortable lead. 1 Quote Link to comment

Sleepy1968
"Play like we did against QPR". Give away a pen, get a player sent off early in second half, and let a goal in right at the end? No thanks. We have to be better than that. Millwall won't give us space to attack at will down our left in the first half. They will just sit in and try to catch us on the break. Are we going to be good enough to break them down? I think it's going to depend on Scott and Seymeno. We also need a plan B for when plan A (I assume it's a plan) doesn't work. We need to pull Semenyo off when he's flagging. I will be very concerned if we can't muster up enough guile to beat Millwall, but am not really expecting it to me anything more than a dull game, with probably more action in the Atyeo than on the pitch. Hope to eat my words later, Edited January 2, 2022 by Sleepy1968 1 Quote Link to comment

Chiang Mai is great. Look me up if you ever make it up this way. I sometimes get my local bar to put on City games, but they have limited screens and the locals are only interested in the Premier League. Need more City fans to be asking for the game. 1 Quote Link to comment

Harry
Here’s my predicted line up. 4-2-3-1 similar to how we played v QPR but Tanner, King & Weimann out, Towler, Massengo & Benarous in O’Leary Vyner Kalas Towler Pring Massengo James Benarous Scott O’Dowda Semenyo 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Towler is not going to be thrown in to start either. I expect same as v QPR, except Massengo in for King. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

fanjita
I know we’re not down to “must win” games yet but we still need enough points to stay clear of the drop, that said, it’s got to be 3 points today. Edited January 2, 2022 by fanjita 1 Quote Link to comment
