Admin phantom Posted October 1, 2022 Admin Report Share Posted October 1, 2022 REVEALED: How the new European calendar from 2024-25 leaves the FA, EFL and the Premier League with little option but to scrap FA Cup replays from R3 and change the EFL Cup for teams in Europe.

BUTOR
The new CL format is the Super League in everything but name! To be honest I couldn’t give a **** if the EFL cup becomes more winnable. Might even breathe new life into the competition.
GrahamC
Wonder how much longer the EFL cup can last. Can’t think of another country that has 2 cup competitions for its’ top flight clubs & so with sides at that level putting second string teams out almost until the final, then it could be under threat. Other alternative would be to make it for sides below the Prem only & amalgamate it with whatever the Johnstone Paint Trophy is called these days. 1

Didn't France get rid of its secondary cup competition? The EFL cup is not at all lucrative for EFL clubs either unless you get far enough and get a game against one of the big PL clubs. The prize money is tiny. It was reported that the reward for beating Wycombe was £7k. If Wycombe had won that would not even cover the cost of putting the game on. The reward for winning the final is £100k. Hard to see it surviving in its current form if at all.

It's not exactly raised the profile of Caraboa either, still being sold in Home Bargains at £1 for 2 cans.

Who do uefa consult with when making these decisions apart from the "top 6" english clubs? Do the pl still have a say?

I have been saying for years that they should scrap the Johnston's Paint Trophy or whatever the **** it's called now and make the League Cup for the Football League only. Might bring a bit of gravitas back to the FA Cup as well, the final of which should be returned to the final showpiece of the season.
