The Coventry "donkey kick" is 52 years old

Recommended Posts

Lived in Coventry as a child and I remember being at a game when they tried it again. I am sure it was against Tottenham with Pat Jennings in goal and this time it hit the bar. After that it was banned as it was considered a flick and not a kick.

I guess it’s being pedantic but I seem to remember it was considered a double touch as the ball was between his heels

Law 13; the Ref should then have awarded an indirect free kick to Everton.

Go on admit it: how many tried copying that kick at school on the Monday?

A free kick didn’t have to go forward just had to travel its circumference before being touched again. That was the rule wasn’t it.
