REDOXO Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 I hear Mr Pearson saying it all the time and see it written on here all the time also I may be getting a bit crotchety in my senior years but I just hate the term. Our Supporters or our Fans just sounds so much more inclusive to me. The term Fanbase to me just sounds so corporate and feels like people that run/own clubs see the clubs supporters as a necessary evil with cash! This isn’t just a City issue by any means, but to my mind it implies “those people over there” and not a part of the club. Quote
GrahamC Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Agree, it is an odd development & NP is by no means the only one to use the term. 1 Quote

Guess since the Premier League went global and 99% of supporters/fans/fanbase will never be able to get to a game as they live thousands of miles away. Doesn't really apply to us however! Quote
slartibartfast Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 As I see it..........supporters attend as regularly as they can. Fan base is more..............you're from Bristol ,which team ?; "Oh City..........I guess " 3 Quote

Bar BS3 Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Fan base (imo) refers to potential support - like the number that clubs take to Wembley or turn out for victory parades or who would tick that teams box on a "who do you support" questionnaire. A fan base doesn't reflect the true or current support of any club, but refers to it's potential for premier league or big cup fixtures. That's how I'd always see it's meaning anyway. 1 Quote
Sleepy1968 Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 I'm a supporter, a fan, and in the fanbase. It just doen't worry me. What's begining to worry me was that last week I found out I was cisgender. I thought it meant something it didn't. No wonder I was confused. Oh, and for the record: some 'supporters' don't, and some 'fans' aren't. Quote
