You can always rely on the Gas to sell out their Santas Grotty.

That’s unfair. @CrackingCheeseGromit is just being realistic as the match is on Boxing Day when a lot of season ticket holders won’t be able to attend due to family Christmas gatherings.

Not unfair , won’t be 7k down because some are at the mother in laws , just fed up of the constant put downs to the fans and club , when most of them are sat at home on their ass instead of being there, OTIB are on their own on this score

Mate, I used to work at the club and I can tell you that pretty much every game is around 4,000 down on the announced attendance . Not unreasonable to assume this will be higher given its Boxing Day.

Yeah totally pointless post to say that there are bound to be season ticket holders who do not attend every single game.

Same as EVERY club in the country

I agree. No chance that over 30% of the 23000 who have tickets aren’t turning up.

As an example, game against Preston, official attendance 17,865 actual 11,421. This season average 3,000 “sold” tickets/season cards aren’t being used. 1,000 tickets for the Bears game against South Africa weren’t used, leaving City v Manchester City as still the highest attendance at the redeveloped Ashton Gate!

I don't know why we have to continually have these threads. These are the facts -

* Every club in the country sells more tickets than physically attend the game.

* When a club are doing really well, the number of non attenders falls as demand for tickets mean that friends or family snap up the tickets when people can't make it. Likewise, if the team is not doing as well, fewer people may attend. Despite this, fans have bought the tickets, so they've shown that support for the club.

* Boxing day is a well attended day, City will have a crowd of 23K+ (sold) and at the very least 20K physically in the stadium. I believe that figure will be higher.

* We have averaged higher gates than Bristol Rovers for the last 60 years, however you try to measure it, we are the best supported team in the South West of England without any argument.

* With an average gate of 20,000 plus, we are the best supported team in Europe not to have seen their team play in the top division of their country for 42 years.

I agree with all your points - but just saying it's a "fact" doesn't make it a fact..!

How can you possibly know how many will actually pass through the turnstiles this afternoon.?

I caught an illness called Gasitis over Xmas that only “50%” of Bristol can catch and which causes hallucinations so I think it will be 23,500 tickets sold, 34k actually in the ground and 5k locked out…..

My wife died back in March.  My son, who is a Dr in Coventry, came home after a 12 hour shift at 10.30pm last night and so we decided to have today as our family get together.  Been to every League game so far this season up until that point.  Thanks for the insult.

I think that less than 25% of bristolians have the disease these days.

Over 23 000 in attendance apparently.

So I doubt that any newbies will be inspired to probably return any time soon following on from such a poor result, performance and atmosphere.

Blimey, I was at the Bears vs South Africa game (23 000 +) and there didn't appear to be an empty seat.

Maybe a percentage of late comers but that doesn't even look like an 18 000 crowd.

We all know they count season ticket holders regardless. 3 out of 4 in our group didn't go today and I suspect there's many who didnt turn up (including half of the squad). That picture is pretty damning when claiming 23k attendance

The stated 23k will be tickets sold (as usual) rather than a claim of 23k in attendance.
