RoystonFoote'snephew Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Very sad news. A wonderful player and a really nice well spoken man. Condolences to all family and friends. Rest in Peace Gianluca. 3 Quote
Davefevs Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 RIP. Great player, great manager, appeared to be a great bloke too. 4 Quote
robinforlife2 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Very sad news, hadn't even heard he was ill. Quote
Port Said Red Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 He was an absolute gentleman. I used to love his post match interviews, where he would sound more English than many Englishmen. "I thought the chaps, performed very well" was a phrase that stuck with me. Beautiful player as well, silky smooth. Also a man who looked far better bald by the way. 5 3 Quote

TBW Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I hated him on Premier Manager 97 and 98, but only because he was good and playing against me. Miss all these 90s/00s generation of foreign players in England, seemed like a rarity rather than the norm - Vialli, Zola, Asprilla, Ravanelli, Juninho... 4 Quote
Super Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Absolutely terrible news. A player and a manager with class. RIP Luca. 1 Quote
tin Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Blimey. Riposa in pace, Luca. He always came across as a lovely fella. When I was a kid, I recall watching him bang in the goals for Samp and Juve on Football Italia, and saw him score for Chelsea in 2-1 win at Old Trafford in ‘96. Another sad loss. 3 Quote

E.J.Thribb Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Grew up watching him on Football Italia, what a striker he was, him and Ravenelli were a joy. Absolutely gutted to hear about his passing. 1 Quote
chinapig Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Everything about him as a player and a man was stylish. Losing the Euros final to Italy was less of a disappointment for me knowing he had played his part in their victory. 4 Quote
Red-Robbo Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Extremely sad news. Pancreatic Cancer is indeed an utter bastard. If you have an unexplainable pain in the back of your abdomen, just above the stomach usually, do get it checked. It's probably something more benign, but if this type of cancer isn't caught very early, it's goodnight Vienna. Ditto with unexplained weight loss. A malfunctioning pancreas will inhibit your ability to digest properly. 4 2 1 Quote
Admin Phantom Posted January 6, 2023 Admin Posted January 6, 2023 Really emotional interview with Souness on SSN just now, poor guy was in bits I'm glad SSN did the decent thing and cut the interview short and went to an ad break Quote
Son of Fred Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Rest in peace Gianluca.. At 58, same age as myself. Makes you think. 1 Quote

The Gasbuster Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Just 58. Great to watch, and as others have said, a great bloke too. Red Robbo absolutely correct about pancreatic cancer. Slim chances of survival when contracted Quote
Hamdon Mart Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Messaged someone a few minutes ago that played for him and with him, said he was a top, top fella. Lovely guy, generous with his time and a genuinely decent human being. RIP Luca. 58 is way too young. Quote
GrahamC Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 So sad. Vialli was class in every respect, a truly brilliant player, also a patently decent, honest bloke who was loved throughout football. His interactions with James Richardson on Gazzetta were superb. He was a year younger than me, it is one of those moments that makes you think about your own mortality & making as much of the time you have. RIP. 4 1 Quote
LondonBristolian Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Really sad news. There's something about people you grew up watching passing away that really hits you. He's of an age where he would have been part of the first Italy teams I remembered you sort of assume the players you first start watching as a child have always been there and always will be. Quote
adamski Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Really sad news, I used to work in a school next to Chelsea's training ground when Luca was Manager. He gave generously of his time and spirit. I was lucky enough to have many chats with him when he came round to spend time with the kids, he was a truly gentle man...a great loss 6 Quote
Offside Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Very sad news. He was an iconic figure in football and always seemed to be smiling. RIP. Quote

Admin Maesknoll Posted January 6, 2023 Admin Posted January 6, 2023 Sad news, he came across as one of footballs nice guys. Enjoyed watching his Chelsea side. Someone told a story on R5 this evening ( an ‘ordinary bloke’) said he and his wife had gone to a restaurant for an anniversary, they had booked but it was full and they were being turned away, Luca was in there with his wife and invited them to sit at their table. Wouldn’t let this couple pay for anything, and he also sent signed pictures and other stuff to the couples kids a few days later. Quote
shepton red Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 RIP Gianluca, taken far too soon. It appears the man upstairs is calling all the Best players into his squad. A beautiful human being and Fantastic footballer . Quote
Red_Alligator Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Great player who loved the game, and it would seem, anyone else he came into contact with who loved the game. RIP Luca. Quote
