downendcity
We've heard loads of comment indicating that we need a target man, and debate as to whether it should be Leroy, Gillespie or Roberts starting up front. I reckon that almost any permutation of forwards is capable of scoring goals for us, but that the problem area is midfield, and especially if we are trying to play 4-3-3. Surely the problem is how, and how often, we get the ball into the forwards and into the box. Last season we had many games where we dominated possession but hardly seemed to get the ball into the opposition penalty area. If we go with small forwards(as we have so far) then we have to play quick passing football, getting the ball into feet or into the space beyond defenders ( that does not mean raking long passes). Even if Miler plays, then he plays well with the ball into feet. You also need midfield runners capable of getting up and past the forwards. There seems little doubt that Murray has been playing out of position up front, and I worry that by playing himself, Tinnion hinders, rather than helps the side as play naturallly goes through him - he is the boss affter alll! Unfortunately his legs don't work like they used to so we miss out by him being there as he's not now a runner. We have been very good at playing controlled, passing football, but often without any penetration as a lot has been back and across ( often at Tinnion's prompting, and increasingly finished by a raking long ball to nothing) I'm not sure the best way to play midfield, but do think Wilkshire could do well if he's not having to play under Tinnion's shadow and Goodfellow also could come into the reckoning. Whatever the solution, we don't need more and more forwards, but do desparately need better service to the ones we've got.
Guest TinmansCulturedLeftPeg
Tins must not rate Miller as a target-man it's as simple as that,Tins wants to play a midfield runner in the hole with two sitting midfielders as he stated on the official site during pre-season,but he clearly can't rate Miller because he's clearly searching for a new target-man so that he can play a midfield runner in the hole.... Guest hairyshamrock
It's his loss, Miller didn't score all those goals at Falkirk through fluke alone! He said everyone would have a chance and he hasn't given Miller one yet... What is it with Northern managers and there "one rule for one player" mentality?! Stylus
agreed downend city. The strikers can only score when they get service so with out that they havn't got a chance. Tinman has too play the football suited too the players he has which isn't the long ball pumped up-field. But quick passing too space & feet would be too their advantage. As the season goes Tinman will realise this and use all his players too their strengths
