Club value?

Seeing as SL has been talking about selling for a little while now how much do you think the club sells for?

With man United being sold for 7bil and Chelsea going for billions too it’s clear there will be a lot of money involved. But haven’t seen too much on championship club worth. A couple hundred million. More? Less?

What percentage of loans etc would SL want repaid as part of any sale? That can affect a purchase price for sure.

100%

And any buyer of the full group would want to repay 100%.

Most likely the loans would be converted into shares immediately prior to the sale and then those shares sold as part of the deal.

Are you selling the club with no stadium, or Bristol Sport as a whole with all assets?

Bristol City is not legally part of Bristol Sport. A sale of the whole Bristol Sport group (ie the Pula Sport Group) would be a much bigger deal than just selling City, AG, the training ground and related IP stuff.

Depends what you mean by 'club'. If it's just the team then £25 million. If it's the team plus the ground £50/60 million. Team plus ground, plus HPC £70m

Mid table Championship clubs aren't worth 100's of millions.

I agree with this valuation pretty much. I certainly don't think we should be expecting anything north of £100m.

Debt > Equity=Inclusion of that In Purchase Price? Kinda thing.

Quick check of the Bristol City Holdings accounts suggests £88.3-88.4m still in theory outstanding to SL as of last May.

Probably.

I said 100% conversion would happen. More accurately that would presumably be the start position. Depending on how benevolent he felt like being SL could be happy to write some of it off if that helped to get closer to the price a buyer was willing to pay. I guess that's what your question was really about.

Isn’t he just looking for outside investment and not looking to completely sell the club .  It won’t be long until the new developments around Ashton Gate so would be a weird time to sell up completely.

You still have to value the company into which that investment goes. The deal needs a price per share and that means the company needs to be valued.

Weren't the new Lansdown and South stands 90 million alone, surely the whole ground is worth more than 25/35 million.

Just basing the values on Kieran Maguire's knowledge of the values of clubs that is often quoted on Price of Football. Derby went for circa £50 million including the ground

Seems ridiculously cheap when you consider some players alone have gone for over 100 million, a strange world we live in when one player can be worth twice as much as an entire club and ground.

Would depend on the value of the real estate, not how much the stadium cost to build, I would guess. Don't forget all the inherent debt and future debt / costs. No club actually makes any money. You would only buy it as an investment, hoping to sell it for a lot more in a few years time.

Maguire said in today's PoF podcast that the most ever paid for a Championship club was £90m for Leeds.
