Hi guys! I’m Jacob, part of the media team at Fan Lounge. I’m currently preparing and putting together an article on the best Bristol City pubs for both home fans and away fans, ahead of the upcoming 23/34 season. Really want to be as accurate as possible with the info going in, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask you guys, as match going fans. If anyone could just share some names of pubs etc, that would be great. Happy to credit whoever wants to be credited in the article too :) Cheers!

Tobacco Factory on North Street for away fans (as well as home fans) a few minutes walk to the away end.

Has decent outside area at the back with bar.

The Nova Scotia, Cottage, or Pump House, on the river about 15 minute walk to the stadium. OK for home and away as long as there are no big, loud, groups.

Home pubs in Bedminster - The Tap And Barrel, The Black Cat, The Masonic, The London Inn, The Rising Sun.

Home pubs in Hotwells - The Bear, The Mardyke.

Away pubs - Nova Scotia, anywhere on the harbourside. Wouldn’t advise drinking anywhere else near the ground, especially if wearing colours. ??

Not really a pub football fans will travel to is it - the majority of idiots will come to Bristol and spend their entire time in the Knights Templar because it’s the first pub by the station ffs.

when city go away we get ushered into some shit hole the local ob push us into

You must be joking? I’ve never once seen an away fan in The Masonic, or The London Inn, or the Tap and Barrel.

Some Millwall were in the White Hart and the Barley Mow this year, that’s about as close as I’ve seen.

Bedminster is strictly home only in most pubs.

Some of them are more gastropubs these days rather than somewhere you'd meet up for a pre match drink.

Last time I went to The Pump House for instance I was met by a woman outside wanting to guide me to a table and take my order. This was fairly recently so well after lockdown. When you can't get to the bar to choose your beer that's not what I think of as a pub, as I told her before moving on.

Not a bad list of pubs but we've lost so many, Wedlocks, Ship & Castle, The Imp, Spring Gardens, Adam & Eve, Plume of Feathers (a regular pre match pub for me for many years) and many others, including several on East Street and West Street.

There's always the Nova Scotia though, still a great pub atmosphere and basically unchanged since my first visit in the mid 70's.

Was using the term every pub in south Bristol being away fan friendly loosely, but in my younger days you would barely see an away fan any further up the road than the North street / coronation road fork apart from the train escort coming down coronation road and past the coopers / rising sun into the ground ( I believe the escorts now get taken up around the park / Cumberland basin )

as for the Millwall fans on that said day think they proved there point going to The white Hart / Barley Mow

The ones I saw that day were basically going where ever they wanted

You still rarely do mate - you get some away fans going in the Wetherspoons in Bedminster, but it ain't a City pub and any City fan with any sense wouldn't drink in there when it's plotted between the Tap and Barrel and the London Inn.

As for the Wall fans, Barley Mow isn't much of a football pub tbf is it. Always locals in there, White Hart I've not been in since it's been done up.

There were some Wall in the Little Gros though surprisingly, which didn't go down too well post match especially.

Nova Scotia always seem to have a large group of home & away fans with very few problems
