Interesting financial stat - ex Prem teams

From the Athletic:

This summer, relegated clubs Southampton, Leicester City and Leeds United have cashed in and sold a combined 15 players for almost £300million — compared to around £144million of sales made by the other 21 teams in the division. In 2022, Burnley, Watford and Norwich Citymade around £119million combined from sales

Article is Basically saying that there is a premium selling price on players who have played in the Prem. So Lavia, say, goes for £58m while Scott goes for £25m. Now perhaps that’s not the best comparison but the point is that in addition to parachute payments the clubs coming down also make a tonne of cash selling on players, even allowing for buying replacements. Stating the obvious? Maybe. But just another factor showing how difficult the financial competition is to get out of this league (in general before anybody says Luton ?)

Probably in part because value is relative to the selling club.

£25m is a lot more to us than it is to Southampton or Leicester
