italian dave
Windmill Hill City Farm. Sorry! Seriously, no idea; weird isn’t it. They look like they’ve been there a while too.

Oh Louie louie
The phonebox under the tunnel made the news in the 00s, for up to twenty grands worth of drug deals done a Day I recall!

If so, I wonder if the sign is pointing at Massive Attack studios (what used to be Unit 3, for those from the Bristol muso community). Erithacus
Is this the one, Louie? I reckon there's a council policy to confuse everyone who isn't a born and bred local. Either that or old Poo-tin is about.

Port Said Red
When I lived in St Annes there was somebody going around adding phrases to the Stop signs like : - Hammertime In the Name of Love Stand There Where You Are Quite amusing at the time. 1

Erithacus
Adding to signs is a fine modern tradition, PSR. Given the current weather this seems a good time to dust this one off. 1
Lanterne Rouge
There was a sign on a fence outside Burwood half way between Bridport and Broadwindsor for ages that said: `Interested in time travel? Meet here last Sunday at 7` The other one that used to tickle me was the sign at Roborough on the way into Plymouth that said; `Plymouth. Spirit Of Discovery` only someone had scraped the `very` off. 1
Port Said Red
One of the best I ever saw was on the A20 in Kent a sign that said Pick Your Own Strawberries sign had been graffitied with one word that completely changed it's meaning. It now read Pick Your Own ****ing Strawberries 1
Lanterne Rouge
I always go carefully when I see the sign `Duck eggs`. You wouldn`t want one to hit you after all.

Erithacus
Old timers like me will recall a couple of local additions: 'Yate, twinned with Legoland' 'Barrow Gurney, twinned with the Moon', sadly no longer evident.

During the war, signposts in Bristol were altered to confuse any enemy invaders or spies. "To the North" pointed south and vice versa, and Avonmouth was pointing towards Dundry. Maybe this is in case of an invasion of Gasheads in the event of a cup tie. (obviously wouldn't be a League game, that would be silly)
Leveller
This all reminds me if that slogan that used to be painted on the wall approaching Paddington station ”Far away is close at hand in images of elsewhere” Thst always tickled me.

The last one, there for f-ing years. One of the most famous like that is the stunning wordplay of "Whither atrophy?" that used to be graffiti-ed on the wall of the Birds Nest pub in Deptford.
