TomThumb84
As the dust settles on a bizarre 10 days or so, and as we await the arrival of our new Head Coach, I have read that Pat Mountain will be retained in the new regime. Mountain has now survived the Johnson (Lee), Holden, and Pearson eras. With the brutal chop/change mentality of the board around personnel and strategy, and the “wheel of fortune” approach to culture and “identity”, does this mean: a) Pat is the worlds best goalkeeping coach b) The role of goalkeeping coach is not one that can be failed at c) Pat Mountain is running the club hidden in plain sight? Food for thought surely. Edited November 7, 2023 by TomThumb84

GrahamC
He has a good reputation within the game? Decent CV that includes Wolves & Hull, I think? Because he wasn’t part of the Pearson regime (he was there already) he wasn’t in the firing line from the Chuckle Brothers? Could be all of this.

Was attempting irony based on the scattergun mentality of our board. Must be decent at what he does so good luck to him.

The squad is good enough.

Set-pieces are pretty integral though no? Surely any incoming head coach would want his own fingerprint/coach all over them?
Eddie Hitler
What a great name, he was clearly the inspiration for Pat Mustard. And can he please resolve the huge unknown on his wiki page: How many appearances did he make for Gloucester City ("Yellows")? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Mountain

RedRock
Goalkeeping has not be a strong point for us over a number of Seasons. Sure he’s a nice chap but we’ve signed some right duffers, Bents and O’Leary form both plateaued, then started to regress and we don’t seem to have a back up keeper, despite there being - I think - 4 on the books. The chap must have other strings to his bow which he is excellent at, as just measured on our keepers, the performance doesn’t shout out to me at least ‘exceptional at his job’.

Possibly but you can see, like someone said, if the stats show we are currently decent with set pieces he may wait to change it (or not at all). New coach will not try and change everything straight away, if it is working leave it, if you think it can be improved easily, do so. Bit surprised tbh, for some reason pictured him being at least twice the size. Edited November 7, 2023 by Nogbad the Bad
