Can anybody conform if the great Tom scored City's equaliser .. By imitating some of our fans by kicking their keeper in the head? Is that really 40 years ago? I recall that iron fence took a pounding. Mad to think they were Div 1 and we were Div 4 but were superior in every department on and off the pitch. An all time great. Me too, my favourite from that AD team - hence the profile image

Happy birthday Tom, Great player, I remember season 75/76 the promotion season and Tom netted more goals than the Big Cheese. Tom always wore the number 8 shirt back then and I remember us very young teenager's then playing football at the old SWEB ground at Stockwood Lane which later became the city training ground for a few years. Us kids at the time painted number 8 on the back of our tee shirts. Tom was also Citys top scorer in division 1 for most of the seasons we were there, and only young Kevin Mabbutt may of just pipped him later in the 70s. The years Tom played for city were a great era and those of us old enough I'm sure will treasure those years. Hopefully the younger ones amongst us will see city in the topflight in the not-too-distant future and see other city players in years to come with the talents of Tom.

What made it extra special was it was on Match of the Day that night and I recollect Jimmy Hill, I think, commenting about the fact it was the first hat-trick on MotD for several years. Goals in general were harder to come by in the 1970s when away teams tended to play for draws more in the days before 3 points for a win. Awesome! 1

Tom was in the six yard box. I think. And everything was I think. The away end was more lively than a Clash gig. 9 hours ago, NickJ said: Is that really 40 years ago? Everybody has heard of CATS. Well I went on CNTS. City non travel service. All stood non seater travel in the back of a removal van. Being drunk got you on. But Tom did score didn't he?
