Admin phantom Posted April 11 Admin Report Share Posted April 11 An independent Disciplinary Commission (IDC) has determined that Sheffield United Football Club are to be deducted two points at the start of the next season the Club is in the EFL’s jurisdiction, with a further two points suspended until the end of that same season. The sanction relates to the 2022/23 season, when the Club defaulted on a number of payments to other Clubs. These defaults cumulatively were in excess of 550 days. The suspended points deduction will be activated if the Club defaults on any payment due to another Club under a transfer or compensation agreement for more than five business days from the due date for payment. The Club has agreed to pay the EFL’s costs in the sum of £310,455. The IDC’s Decision and written reasons are available to view on EFL.com. Mr Popodopolous
That is really interesting from a jurisdictional standpoint. If a Proceeding pertaining to Aligned Rules begins in the PL or EFL it can continue clearly. Sets an interesting precedent and can offer some clarity. Possibly a case of the punishment being parked until such time as a club return to the relevant League. Agreed Decision in the end, ratified by an IDC. If it was Man City it would be reduced on appeal to a ten point addition.

Probably not and especially so when you've got umpteen millions in parachute payments to hand.

Seemingly not - Sheffield United will start with a two-point deduction the next time they play in the Championship, following a ruling by the EFL. The Blades broke EFL rules by defaulting on payments to other clubs during their 2022-23 promotion season. As well as the initial deduction, the Premier League's bottom club have been handed a further two-point suspension. The club said it was "disappointed" but will not appeal against the decision. Instead, Sheffield United added that it "took the view that it was better to reach an agreement which minimised the risks of a higher deduction or further transfer embargoes being imposed, and being distracted by lengthy and costly legal proceedings. "The club is now in a position to close this matter and concentrate on the future.".

When I read it a bit further it was that so 2 and 2 more suspended until end of the season in which they got-2. This is separate from an Award. Why it took a year to thrash this out however is odd. They got an Embargo too at the time and money was paid in the end..was it enough? Who knows. Edited April 12 by Mr Popodopolous
Dolman Exile
Sheff Utd finished 11 points above third place. Having cheated their way to Premier League riches and soon, parachute payments wouldn't it be fairer to deduct 12 points which is the number that would have denied them an undeserved promotion? Two points are neither here nor there and there's a danger that points deductions will become a business decision, especially for the yoyo teams. Additionally when a team is deducted points then for a fixed period thereafter any further punishment should be for at least as many points again, irrespective of the tariff for the subsequent offence. There's every chance that Leicester (and possibly others) will end up with rolling deductions and all opportunities to game the system need removing.

Mendip City
It’s no punishment at all. I reckon if you offered any City fan promotion now and a 2 point deduction next time we are relegated, they’d snap your hand off. In fact how big a deduction would you gamble on…. 12 points? 20?? I would for the experience, increased profile, financial bunk up and parachute payments. Sounds to me that financial impropriety pays!!!

We’d be more likely to get relegated, with a 20 point “good finance bonus” and still cock up promotion.
