Harish Shetty
On 27 March 2024 we parked our car at South Bristol Retail Park, Winterstoke Road, Ashton Gate and had food at KFC and made a purchase in Iceland. No one in KFC or Iceland informed us that we need to enter the car details to park in the parking. Today we received a parking charge note for £60 for parking at South Bristol Retail Park, Winterstoke Road, Ashton Gate. This totally unfair. Not unfair ,clearly states on machine and notices on boards ,1hr parking free but must enter registration number in machine, I take it you didn't look, 1
Popular Post Silvio Dante
So….. The OP parked his car in a car park within close proximity of Ashton Gate, but it has nothing to do with the club. There was no fixture on the day he visited, and the purpose of his visit by his own admission had nothing to do with Bristol City. The car park has clear signs advertising the parking restrictions. I’ll be honest here, I’m kind of struggling to see what this has to do with OTIB. But I’m happy to put forward that it’s likely to be Tinnions fault. 4

The last time I was down there it was a maximum stay of 90 minutes that seemed quite reasonable, I have no idea if it has now been reduced to 60, common sense would tell you surely somewhere so close to a stadium would have some kind of restriction to stop it being overrun with matchday parking. RTFS How would staff serving in a KFC or a supermarket know that you had arrived by car or where you parked it or known that you hadn't entered your reg. no in the machine as requested by the signs. You might have walked or cycled. But everything is someone else's fault so yeah the 18 year old on the KFC till is to blame!
richwwtk
Can you really make a purchase, register your numberplate and stay as long as you like? Worth knowing for matchdays!

Worth knowing for matchdays! No. Unlike (for example) some pubs there is no facility at said retail park to enter your number plate anywhere. It works on 90 minutes restriction for all vehicles, and is managed by ANPR. The theory is that if you’re spending more than 90 minutes at the Food Warehouse and B&M Bargains you’re more than a bit weird, so means spaces are always available for all shoppers. 1

There's also signs on every lampost, plus others dotted around, probably about 20 signs in total informing motorists and KFC patrons of the time restrictions......the OP must have poor eyesight as well as a poor diet.

Are you sure that you mean the retail park not the ground car park. I ask this as we shop there regularly and have never entered our number / not even sure we have ever seen a machine. Will look again on Thursday.

That's what I thought, so why is the OP complaining about nobody telling him about entering his numberplate? Could he have actually parked in the AG Winterstoke Road Car Park? Pretty sure it's free to park there if you enter your reg in the club shop when making a purchase.

westonred
Years ago you could park on the Cumberland Basin also near Ashton Ct Mansion, Along the road by the old Police horse section, the slip road for the A370, In County Gates car park, along the road by the Dovecote pub, along the A370 upto David LLoyds as well as a lot of the side streets around BS3. There is too much money in parking and fines these days so it's hard to find a free parking space anywhere near the Stadium (God knows what it would be like if we ever got to the Prem) I dont see why the club don't investigate running matchday coaches (Football and Rugby)to Games from places like Weston s Mare, Clevedon, Portishead as well as places in North Bristol if it was a good reliable service it would take a lot of traffic off the road and also ease parking issues Edited May 14 by westonred

Nomad
I think ppl are confusing AG and the retail park. There are NO machines at the retail park. You stay too long, you get charged. 1

The OP has had a PCN that referred to parking at South Bristol Retail Park ( not AG), I think the OP (wrongly) assumed they should have given their details to the retailer they visited and their complaint was that the retailer never told them or asked for their reg no. ( the OP never mentioned machines). In fact they simply didn't notice or read the signage, stayed longer than the allowed time, and duly received a PCN. Complaining on a Football Fans Forum just because the FC happened to be next door was particularly stupid though 1

We've had a near full stadium a few times. We won't get more than on those occasions, so as bad as it's been is as bad as it'll be... Until BCC decide to cash in and introduce more RPZs and pay & displays of course!

I think you get 30 minutes free in the club car park and there are charges after that. I know if you are using the club shop and other facilities in the stadium you can register your number to avoid the charges, but if you're just popping in half an hour is plenty anyway so wouldn't cause you a problem. westonred
Parking is a hugh issue now most of the free spaces have been taken away by NSC and BCC When 'Lansdown World' is built there is a provision for a large Multi Storie car park in the plans but if they think that is the answer they are wrong. Have you ever tried getting out of a Multi Storie car Park at the same time as 500 other cars you have to wait for hours. We need the Old Portishead railway line brought back to life for passengers and a new Station built over by the Ford garage We have a lovely ground but terrible parking which will only get worse
