Its Not Now Early Days

I am beginning to feel that this season is going to pass BCFC by.

We are not far from 1/3 of the way through the season and we are still in the bottom half of the table.

IT IS NOT NOW EARLY DAYS.

The only way we can climb the table is by putting together a number of wins on the trot. We are finding it very difficult to do this due to unacceptable away performances which are showing few signs of improving.

Unless our players can start getting away results we are looking at mid table with even the play offs out of reach never mind automatic promotion. We are 10 points off of 2nd place Brentford which given our current inconsistant form will take some catching up.

Starting this Saturday at Wallsall we need to start winning away. Prepare yourselves for mid table unless this happens.

We were saying similar this time last season. Don't forget City don't have boring seasons.

City always make it interesting come the end of the season, just not quite interesting enough. ;)

The main reason we are way we are is due to the poor start we made. A number of reasons can be put forward for this poor start, but looking at the current form table we are rated 3rd:

Pos Team P W D L F A GD Pts

1 Brentford 8 5 3 0 10 4 6 18

2 AFC Bournemouth 8 5 1 2 19 10 9 16

3 Bristol City 8 4 3 1 19 11 8 15

4 Bradford City 8 5 0 3 14 11 3 15

5 Luton Town 8 4 2 2 11 7 4 14

6 Huddersfield Town 8 4 1 3 17 12 5 13

7 Tranmere Rovers 8 3 4 1 14 10 4 13

8 Hull City 8 4 1 3 10 14 -4 13

9 Wrexham 8 3 3 2 7 8 -1 12

10 Doncaster Rovers 8 3 3 2 10 12 -2 12

We just need a few wins to get us back amongst the pack and with 3 of the next 4 (& 4 of the next 6) fixtures being at home there's no good reason why we can't achieve this ;)

Your joking yeah?

With 3 home games on the trot after Walsall I wouldn't be suprised to see us in the playoffs.

Of course it's still early days, when we went up under John Ward we were 19th at the end of October.

Unfortunately we have to play away games as well as home game. 3 on the trot at home means possibly 3 on the trot away at some time. Its away that we struggle

Err we've drawn our last two away games, and before that we lost one and won one. I was under the impression that a point away from home was good if you won your home games, which by and large we have been doing.

"Unless this happens". Chances are it will. Or not. My point being, we (football fans in general and City fans in particular) constantly rely on recent results or current league position as a barometer for the future. But things never actually happen like like that, at least not at Bristol City.

Every season, numerous City fans confidently predict a mid table finish or relegation. We've consistently failed to deliver that, annoyingly finishing top half or (particularly annoyingly) in the playoffs.

The unbeaten run's only a couple of weeks old, give it a chance!

A nice looking form table there.

WE ARE BEES!

The introduction of 3 points for a win and play-offs will probably mean that City along with probably 10 or so other teams will have something to play for right through to our 45th or 46 th league games.

Why, oh,why with the best part of a 100 points still at stake do we have to hear stories about Brentford or how the season might pass us by.The time to be a wet blanket is when mathematically we know darn well were going nowhere......and that is 6 months away.

As pointed out by Madger our current form is pretty solid and our recent home performances have been superb. Both Brentford & Hull are in the top six and were both made to look very average at Ashton Gate.

In past seasons there were always a couple of teams you would have been glad to take a point of at AG - Crewe, Cardiff, QPR, Wigan etc because these teams had real class in comparison to the rest of the league. This season there isn't one team that inspires any sort of worry whatsoever. If we maintain the consistency we have at the moment it will be enough to see us up.

I dunno why everyones panickiking - we always, always, always start badly, in fcat I think this is a better start than usual.  I can't remember the last time we were in the top 10 this side of christmas, don't worry about it, our season will start on boxing day.

" Always, always, always start badly..."

Why, why, why do we always start badly and why, why, why is it continuously trotted out as an excuse, or even as though this is part of some clever, strategic master plan?

If we've learnt anything from the last 2 seasons, then surely it has to be that you make sure you get of to a good start. I stand to be corrected, but for the last 2 seasons the teams gaining automatic promotion were in the top 2/3/4 almost from the start. Last year it was our poor start to the season that costs us automatic promotion, i.e. we had too much ground to make up and wouldnt have even been in the frame without the inccredible winning run ( we can't bank on that happening every season).

While accepring the Managerial changes came into play, Tinnion had the whole of pre-season to get everything in place, and yet we started the season not seeming to know what tactics we were using, what formation to use and who was playing where. You can understand a degree of bedding in with a new Manager comin into the club, but Tinnion has been here years and knows all the players well.

Are we playing under some unkown handicap system, where we think we are so much better than the other teams in this division that we have to give them a head start ( a bit like the bigger, faster boys letting the weedy kids have half a lap start in athletics at school!)

The only consolation this season, is that the quality in league 1 seems to be even poorer than in previous seasons, so if we can play to our full ability then there is no reason why we cannot get into the frame by the end of the season. But why, why, why don't we make it easier for oursleves one time?

Yes a great start....a draw at home with Torquay..... thats 2 points LOST, easy to say but hard to take.......that is just flat out dumb football or management. Add to that the weekly stats that show us creating chances 2 or 3 to 1 against the opposition, and every week we have management and media saying well we could have scored 5, or Lita or someone could have scored a hat trick. We don't want coulda shoulda woulda results like last year.......get the job done, thats all.

It's like this ;

1 AFC Bournemouth 8 6 1 1 20 9 11 19

2 Bradford City 8 6 0 2 17 10 7 18

3 Hull City 8 5 1 2 13 10 3 16

4 Bristol City 8 4 3 1 17 11 6 15

5 Tranmere Rovers 8 4 3 1 15 10 5 15
