Dons Review

City put the Dons in their place with an emphatic 4-1 victory that saw Leroy Lita score two more goals to bring his tally this season to 15.

City got into the mood right away and with their first meaningful attack scored. Dinning sent Murray away with a defence - splitting pass that left Dons full-back Lewington on the floor and Murray slid a low cross across the 6-yard box for Lita to net from close range.

City then probed for the second and Dons' defence looked shaky throughout, although the counter-attacks from the visitors caused some anxiety through their pace. Steve Phillips pulled off a breathtaking reflex save from Dons' top scorer McLeod to deny him a goal, and in contrast the visitors' keeper Bevan looked uneasy, particularly when Lita grabbed his second; he flapped a Brooker header onto the bar, and as he fell backwards, pushed the rebound again onto the bar. Lita, standing on the line, knocked the easiest goal in he'll ever score.

Brooker got the third a few moments later, sending a gentle looping header over the flapping Bevan into the corner.

In the second half Bevan made up for his first half nightmare, denying Wilkshire twice with a couple of great stops and Lita shot wide when maybe he sould have done better. Then Murray broke through and with two forwards screaming for the ball, shot greedily at the keeper sand the rebound broke upfield for Small to cut in and chip past Phillips for 3-1.

City kept on attacking and Wilkshire deservedly got his goal when he volleyed into the top corner following a blocked shot.

The last twenty minutes or so saw further chances but they were not taken, but City were well worth their win against a leaky defense.

Philips: 7 - Great save, generally commanded his box, no chance with the goal.

Coles: 5 - Not at his best and right back doesn't really suit him.

Butler: 6 - Dons pace troubled him but in the air was at his normal best.

Hill: 7 - another great performance at the back, a dependable player.

Bell: 6 - Competent performance, always offers width in attack. Replaced by Smith.

Murray: 6 - Created the first goal, and always looked dangerous, but was wasteful on a few occasions.

Dinning: 7 - Looked comfortable and is settling in. Quietly but efficently effective, could be a really good member of the team.

Doherty: 6 - A little off his game today but was best in the first half. Faded as usual in the second. Replaced by Orr.

Wilkshire: 8 - Tore the Dons to bits with some breautiful passing and runs. Deserved more than one goal.

Brooker: 6 - One of the buys of the century (!). Holds up the ball well and got a goal, was a handful to the opposition.

Lita: 7 - Two goals, caued problems to the visitors. After his second got greedy and wanted a third which detracted from his team play. Replaced by Gillespie.

Subs: All got 6.
