crumbs
Well this is a front runner for my "stupidest post of the year" vote for next year....... ← Why's everyone crying, I thought it was hilarious, stop being babies and learn to take a joke
Taz
hasnt mike stowell retired? isnt he now a coach at the club?. ← Player/Coach I believe. If we haven't signed another Goalkeeper by the Summer though, then we could be in trouble. Stowells nearing retirement age for a keeper (and he's looked dodgy in the last few times I've seen him play), and from reports I've heard about Davis, he doesn't seem to be the best prospect.... IMO we need an experienced (early 30's) Goalkeeper who has played in the Prem/1st Division for quite a while, to ensure that we have adequate cover in this position. It would be a replacement for Philips, because as with any position you want to better your squad as best you can.

A new goalkeeper would need to be substantially better otherwise we are paying the wages of two players in one position, if he is substantially better we would need to pay him accordingly. We can always loan a goalie if we need to. I'd prefer us to save that money or spend it elsewhere.

You can't always get a quality replacement on loan at such short notice.

I would like to think Brian has a plan if steve did get injured and knows the player he would like to get in on a short term deal. Saying all this I do believe that phillips has played on numerous occasions when he has been carrying an injury and with adequate cover he could have been rested. Even though this has happened I still think another permanent full time member of staff is a luxery we can't afford.
fRed
The last time I watched the reserves I was quite impressed with Davies. He flapped at a corner but made 2 good saves, I thought it was Phillips in disguise.
claloudav
Clint Davies actually played during the second half of the West Bromwich Albion game and made a convincing performance. I think he should be put on the bench for a game against a lower side to see what he can do. Say we put him on for the first 20 minutes and if things go wrong we can always sub him with Phillips. This would give him some first team experience.

Big Red Rich
Dear oh dear. This thread gets better and better. Putting on a keeper for the first 20 minutes of a game?? That is bizzare to say the least. I felt the need to call this post stupid was mainly because Stowell is well past it. He was past it when he was a regular in the first team. Davis is clearly nowhere near first team quality and to suggest otherwise is just plain daft, even more so because Phillips is one of the best keepers in the division. Sure, he isnt a Premiership keeper or anything silly like that, but an extremely solid 2nd divison keeper. If anyone wants to argue with Benny Lennartson, Danny Wilson and Brian Tinnions' view on that then go ahead, but I suspect they have slightly more experience in football that anybody else on here. As for Murray to go on loan at Swansea. Have you never heard of poor form? Slinging him out on loan to some Welsh basement club is hardly going to help a player of his calibre. A spell on the bench maybe, time away from the first team perhaps not, but loaning him out?? Of course, this is my opinion only, just as much is that it is my opinion that this post is rather on the 'stupid' side. Could that be anything to do with young girls not knowing a lot about football?
