Having just read "The ask SL" Forum, the answer to the question about why the City v Walsall game has been moved to the Friday has got to be a wind up!!

For those who have'nt read it, it's been moved basically by the police as Yeovil are playing The G*s on the Saturday!!

SO, more or less every other police force in the country can deal with more games and bigger crowds than our local area provides without moving games.

Why not move THE LEAGUE 2 GAME :D

I was the person who asked the question about why the game had been moved to the Friday, and I have to say that I am amazed at the answer. Yeovil is about 40 miles from Bristol - why on earth can we not play on the same day as them? My God, how do the Greater Manchester police cope when United, Bolton, Wigan, Stockport and Bury are all at home on the same day? I really have heard it all now. Also, why do we always move our matches to the Friday night? What's wrong with playing on the Sunday?

Plod won't get out of bed for anything less than double time on a Sunday is my bet.  :D

Nibor

Why do we need police for a game against bloody Walsall anyway? Not exactly a high profile game is it? Or are Avon and Somerset police worried that the actions of their West Midlands colleagues in October will have repercussions at this match and so we need a heavy police presence? :D

Isnt this the exact same reason the Rushden game was moved to Friday night last year as well??

I have a feeling it was and to the same reaction. A&S Constab just don't seem to have the logistical ability to cope with two matches on the same day. What they do when Yeovil normally play at home opn the same day as us agaisnt other teams i just don't know.

Really is laughable when you compare to other forces that don't neccessarily have bigger resources

Dooes this question really need to ne asked when recently it was revealed that only 1 in 10 crimes in Bristol is solved?

Our police force is the 2nd worse for crime reduction in the country and is totally inept from top to bottom.

They can,t find the resources too police two local games at the same time but they can afford to waste the concil tax payers money on new Mercedes patrol cars (what happened to the good old Escort)!!

I have been led to believe that there is a rota system in place, so that the clubs take it in turn when there are two big games on at once.

So the gas will have to move next time?

Well thats what I thought...

You may be right, I don't know. However, this decision does seem a bit absurd.

The Yeovil v Rovers game is the 'problem' game that requires heavy policing not ours, so their game should be moved not ours.

Equally, the Yeovil game is only a 40 mile drive for Rovers fans on a Friday night, whereas Walsall fans now have to make a 100+ mile drive down the M5 during a Friday rush hour and many will be put off by that, as it is also the day a lot of schools break up for half term, so the motorway is likely to be busy.

Not only do we get messed about, our attendance will probably suffer as a result, which will obviously cost the club money.

On a personal level, I will now miss the game, as I cannot get down to Bristol for Friday night games and had pencilled this one in as one I could go to on a Saturday, as I was coming to Bristol with my kids for half-term.

Another voucher from my season ticket that will go unused. T'riffic.

I hope the Police bear this in mind next time we have a "problem fixture". Their attitude towards this fixture for the past 2 seasons has been to leave it as a Saturday 3pm ko. I trust in future any potentially troublesome City games will be kept as Saturday 3pm ko's unlike in seasons past.

My guess is that is why the Brentford cup-tie was moved to the Friday despite the Tranmere match on the Tuesday when we'd surely have been better prepared on the Sunday.

Offset the extra costs for rozzers versus the potential cup earnings (Brentford are still in it!) and the damage the replay caused to preparations for the Owls match and you've got to wonder if it was worth it. Pennywise ... ?
