IGNORED

Auschwitz

My both sides of my family originally hail from Poland and days like these are not lost on us. Luckily, none of my family members were sent to Auschwitz, but my heart goes out to those who were there or lost family there. My relatives instead particpated in the Polish underground resistance. On my mother's side, their home and orchard was confiscated by the Nazi army for use as officers' quarters. On my father's side, two of my relatives (who were in the resistance) were discovered by the Nazi police, taken out into the street and shot. Their gravestone reads "Victims of Hitler" and their names are listed on a memorial in the town of Brodnica. The unjustness of it is still a bit of a sore spot in the heart of my family - I can only imagine what it must be like for the survivors of the concentration camps.

I can't even begin to comprehend the hows and the whys of these places. How did anyone ever survive and what must the experience done to them. Truely moving.

Anyone who moans about being 'stressed' in this day and age should think again.
