Ball Winning Centre Halves

Why arn't we able to produce a good ball winning centre half in the academy,so far we've had fortune, carey, coles, hill, skuse and Amankwaah whos playing centre half yet none of them our good at winning the ball. Surely we should be trying to teach our younger players how to do this instead of having to spend money on bringing people in. If you look around some local leagues there our loads of players who want to get stuck in and arn't afriad to put there head in were it hurts yet we manage to find the ones who just look good.

And what exactly does Shaun Taylor do? Surely if anyone can teach people about being a hard centre half its him.

Its been the same with strikers and goal keepers as well. We seem to be able to produce players who are good at doing the basics but when it comes to specialist training like goal keeping and being alive in the box we seem to be letting ourselves down.

You have to ask how good our coaches are though.

I don't have a problem with the academy, In fact I think its a major asset to the club BUT I don't feel its getting the best from the young players we have.

What an oppertunity we have to install both great coaching practices on these young players and lifestyle coaching. Teach the players the dangers of smoking, drinking and generally acting like Colin Cramb whistling.gif and what it can do to you, Hopefully we wouldnt then see so many academy grads in town on a Saturday night !

I just think the academy is not being utilised properly, Get some of our boys sent over tosomewhere like Ajax or even our coaches for that matter for a couple of months, get there lads over here build relationships with other academys and generally improve the coaching setup.

Just think what we could have used Tony Dinnings wages for !

I think these results say it all about how bad our academy is. here

Two wins in 22 league games for the season, in anyones book that is woeful.

It's all about development and not results to be quite honest........ do you think we can compete with Arsenal & Chelsea etc. some of the academy players are brought in for fees you wouldn't believe! If half your team is involved with the first team no wonder the results are like that. Besides its probably the most successful academy in the country in relation to first team progression.

If the academy players weren't in the first team tell me who would be?!!!!! In fact you try make a first team out of non academy players if you can.

It's the best thing about the club at the moment and without it ... well ... no team!!!

regards
